waiting for 4 Extractions this Fri.
Okay.. Here's deal.. I know I've decided to start on braces treatment and knowing that extractions would need. But it came down to the day, this Friday is the day I'm getting extractions.. And I'm pretty already freaked out.. Did anyone feel depressed after getting extrations and left with big emthy spaces? Any aftercare (mentallyl?)

I also had 4 extractions. I remember sitting at home with bloody gauze in my mouth watching bad TV thinking....what the hell have I just done?
But then I got my braces and things started moving, and I remembered that it was all going to be worth it. Just keep saying to yourself, "I'm gonna have a beautiful smile and these big empty spaces are going to enable that to happen."

Extractions
Funny you should ask!
Just sat here tonight recovering from the last two extractions today (my dentist would only do them two at a time, each side of my mouth at one time). And I am feeling hugely better! This time I asked for penicillin -I felt I had suffered with bad breath last time and thought a quicker recovery wouldn't hurt me
The first extraction went ok (although the lower teeth have been awkward little beggars to remove - but they were in unusual positions due to crowding). Afterwards though I felt quite teary for a while. Chatting on here helped but I was in the OMG what have I done stage.
This time I feel quite calm - I am now ready for braces come what may. And I KNOW I have perfectly good reasons for wanting this. The extractions today were not any easier (because of the lowers again) but I feel a lot more my normal self now and not washed out.
As you have only one appointment I think your dentist is expecting the extractions to be straight forward. Once they are over you can look forward to braces day and improving that smile! Don't worry, you'll be feeling fine in no time

4 Extractions?? Been there, done that, PIECE OF CAKE!! I was pretty freaked out as well... but it went so well! I was mostly freaked out about them pulling my teeth while I was awake, but i didnt feel a thing! I worked myself up over nothing!!
As for the holes? Being a 22 y/o female, I was pretty worried about my appearance. I'm gunna be honest... it's not my most attractive feature and I was pretty depressed for a week... but as I started noticing that NO ONE was noticing, I eased up on myself... and constantly reminded myself of the PERFECT smile I'll have one day!
A few months of gaps is TOTALLY worth a lifetime of perfection!
You'll do great! Keep us posted on how it goes! Feel free to PM me if you want anymore specifics!
As a side note-- I had my extractions in September... and they're 95% closed now..!! And I'll tell you what-- the time FLEW by!!

For me, the scariest part about it was the fact that I was getting perfectly good teeth taken out. I got really drugged up for the procedure, and it went just fine. I got the gas, and then they numbed me. You'd also be fine just being numbed up, but I was so nervous that there's no way they would have gotten me to sit still without either gas or duct tape!
Afterwards, I had a nice laugh when I bent over to pick up my purse in the waiting room and bloody spit ran out of my completely numbed-up lips.
I spent the afternoon taking it easy, and with the pills he gave me, I wasn't really in much pain. I did have some bleeding for the rest of the day, which made for an interesting evening (I was supposed to teach a review session, so I took a friend with me and mumbled stuff to her through the gauze so she could speak out loud to the class).
After a few days, I felt just fine. Nobody could see my gaps unless I either smiled huge or opened my mouth up and pointed them out. I was the only one that noticed or cared. I still get creeped out when I think about the actual extraction process (even though it really was fine, it's just the thought of it). But my gaps on the bottom are almost closed entirely.

I was self conscious about the gaping holes left in my mouth. Once I was braced I felt worse, then I got over it when I saw that the wire was straightening out and my teeth were on the go!

I feel your pain! I go in this Saturday for my 4 extractions and I'm freaking out too. Trying to stay calm, but I'm nervous about the whole thing. Wonder how I'm going to look and how it's going to feel with those empty spaces. I'm really concerned about the healing process, as I had a hard time healing with my wisdom teeth. But those are different. I keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end. Hang in there!!!

omg, let's embrace our selves.. I'm shaking already. I'm thinking of asking my 4 helathy teeth back so we can keep them as solvenir and victory in a jar - - VcarolEEna wrote:I feel your pain! The healing take about 7 days. I remember when I had my wisdom teeth removed, my face was soared and coudln't eat normal food for days. But I think premolars are a lot easier b/c there's only 2 roots vs. 4 roots.
Are you getting your braces right after?
Some people have their brace on the same day. I don't know if they mean bracket or wire. I just have my bracket glued last month and I'm going back for wire 10 days after the extraction. Hopefully my teeth won't move too much by then.
Good luck and when we are still alive after, let's meet here again.

I asked for and received my 3 wisdom teeth back when I was 20-something and had them removed. I'm really annoyed with myself that I that forgot to ask for my 4 premolars!!I'm thinking of asking my 4 healthy teeth back so we can keep them as souvenir and victory in a jar - - V
(Hope that's not too weird.)
Good idea! I’m going to ask for them too! I asked for my wisdom teeth afterwards and they only gave me one. I hope I heal within 7 days. It took a while to recover from my wisdom teeth. I was so sore and swollen too. I’ve heard the premolars are easier too. I hope so!adultbraces wrote:omg, let's embrace our selves.. I'm shaking already. I got most of my braces put on 2 days ago, but only my top front 6 are wired. I also got spacers the same day, so I’m super sore right now! I’ll get rest finished after the extractions have healed.
Good luck to you too! Yes, let’s keep up with each other’s progress.
