I had four teeth extracted in two seperate visits as the dentist only wanted to deaden one side at a time. I was also scared because the last time I had a tooth extracted it was infected and it was a nightmare.

But, I can literally say by the time I counted to 15 the dentist already had one tooth out, and then immediately moved onto the other, it was extremely quick. I felt no pain at all just pressure. If you are comfortable with your dentist i'm sure you will have no trouble at all!

no need to worry. However, if the tooth breaks during extraction, it will have to removed by surgery. Now the surgery itself is not painful due to the anesthetic, but it will leave the extraction site look like a war zone and there will be some discomfort for a few days.

After tooth extraction orthodontic treatment is pretty much a walk in the walk in my experience

I had my wisdom teeth out under local anaesthetic, and it was a nightmare. I had two upper teeth out before the braces went on, and it was a walk in the park. The only unpleasant part was taking the gauze out two hours later-- really gross.

It was really painfull when i had my wisdom teeth removed I went under GA and because they where impacted they had to dig for them, I am already braced now so im worried they might knock them while pulling the teeth out and im scared that i will be awake too.

I have visions of them pulling the bottom tooth and when it comes out smashing my top teeth lol i have such a wile imagination !

The most important thing is how much you trust your dentist. Also remember that you will be numb and not feel a thing. The worst part of the extraction is the fear you are feeling and all the anxiety that goes with it. Remember the worst part is the fear .
I had 6 extractions done in one visit. Yes it was general anesthesia however the fear was almost crippling for me. As soon as it was over and my mouth full of gauze , I spoke to the surgeon and told him "My fear was worse than the procedure" He told me that is usually the case.
Remember that if for any reason at all you feel discomfort ,your dentist will stop in a split second and make sure you are fully numb.Everyone gets really anxious over extractions some people more than other. I'm probably like you :) The night before my anxiety was at it's peak.I got on my elliptical machine for a record 75 minutes straight. My legs were numb and I was extremely exhausted ,took a nice hot shower.Took an over the counter sleeping pill and slept the whole night. You are not alone in this.
May you have a super quick recovery .

I preferred to have my wisdon tooth extracted with only local, it was a cake walk! As soon as I sat down, they were suturing the gum and I was done! The premolars were easy too! Took a few shots to get me numb all around, then a couple minutes or so to have the teeth cleaned and in a little sterile envelope to take home!
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

Don’t be nervous!!!
I was uber scared before my extraction too. It was not bad at all; the scariest part is the anticipation. I was so nervous that I had him write me a prescription for Tylenol 3, just in case the extraction site hurt me. 14 months later, the bottle of Tylenol 3 is still sitting in my medicine cabinet intact. If anything, my braces gave me far more discomfort than the extraction. You are going to be fine. There are complications that MAY arise; you can also get hit by a car walking across the street… relax, okay?

Hi Kerry

Please try not to worry its really not as bad as you imagine it to be.

Ive had 3 teeth taken out, 2 of which were surgical extractions-due to complications and all with local anesethic.

Ive also had 2 smallish operations on my jaw, the first i was completely terrified as it was an emergency i had no choice but have a local, the 2nd i chose to have only a local as the 1st had been ok and i didnt want to make it into a big deal for myself.

If its a rountine extraction-which im sure it is, then itll be all over in a couple of minutes.

Please dont worry about crying, ive done that once when i found out i needed a tooth out  so im sure your dentist will understand, ive also fainted at the dentist (not because of the pain or anything!) so theyve seen it all before im sure.

Im sure your be fine.

loulou

ps-just so you know, when i had one of my teeth out, it had a gold crown on it, which refused to come off and as it came off suddenly the tool he was using smacked me in the upper teeth at quite a force, and all the teeth were 100% fine and still are, so even if this did happen, and i dont know of anyone else its happened to during a rountine extraction then your teeth will be fine.

please don't worry about it. I had to have 2 teeth out and with the first 1 i nearly fainted afterwards because i'd worked myself up so much  with the 2nd one i knew what to expect and it was fine.

Dont worry too much. - i should take my own advice!

#13 Post by martinboyce »

This really depends on your teeth and your gums, teeth with multiple roots tend to be more difficult, deeper roots even more so. Generally healtier teeth are deeper and stronger, poorly teeth a smaller but more fragile under pressure,

i had my molar break apart (decayed) during extraction and she had to go in with the drill to cut it up. My one tooth took 30 mins of tugging pulling cutting blowing etc, but throughout the entire thing, not one bit of pain. completely pain free, which i wasnt expecting. i was half expecting some pain. was a bit rough at times and it hurts a bit after. Im going in for further extraction today. Man aint they fun! woop,

PULL IT OUT ALREADY GOD DAMN IT!

HAD EXTRACTION A FEW HOURS AGO

#15 Post by martinboyce »

OK just got back from dentist extraction number 2!all in all not too bad, had the top molar out and the remainder of the previous extraction so the left is done. The dentist had to work for his money, the tooth was massive, the detist, nurse and receptionist all thought so as i paraded it round after. Its left a big hole bit itll heal with time. Im just glad it came out in one go, if anything the little bit of root from the previous extraction hurt more than this whole tooth coming out did.

He gave me a 5 day course of Metronidazole to clear up my infection.

He also mentioned something about a partial dry socket, what does that mean and how does it effect ortho treatment?

I put the tooth on my keyboard for a bit of perspective, its a biggy for a top tooth for sure. Im still numb dribbling and slightly dizzy right now so ill cut this short. Im still certain im doing the right thing, for those who like pics heres a couple that you might like

Time to lay down now, and wait for the inevitable ache! booooo
