Before getting ortho, I read as much as I could on it (I've been "prepping" for 7 months, so I had a lot of time to do so). I've only had brackets on for a few hours, but I've already run into something I didn't even think about.
When I put on lip balm or lipstick, I normally rub my lips together. But with the brackets, I can't do that -- my lips don't wrap around far enough! Silly, but I've already caught myself trying to do it three or four times.
Hehehe I know what you mean! I couldn't close my mouth with my protrusion and lip strain before braces, what on earth made me think I'd be able to do it the first day of braces.

Yep, that sounds familiar alright For some reason I never do that with lip balm (which I use a lot). I only wear lipstick occasionally and the first time I put it on after getting braces was so weird, it just never dawned on me until I tried, didn't feel right at all. I can do it now though because my front teeth have moved in so much.

Since I can't whistle, with or without braces, that reminds me of an old joke:
A man has to have surgery and asks the doctor: "Doc, will I be able to play the piano after my operation?" The doctor says, "Of course, there's no reason why not!" The man says "That's wonderful! I've always wanted to be able to play!"
i couldn't whistle before i had braces but now i can every time i say a word with an "F" in lol.
As for lipstick i've noticed i don't lick it off as much but it has got on my braces a few times, not a good look

Discovered this when trying to call the dogs back in at night, usually a short sharp whistle is all that's needed, all I can make is an inept blowing sound.
Indeed, if you have had extractions and are closing up those gaps, you will find yourself whistling at odd moments when talking. The lipstick thing, it's happened to me too and boy does it show brightly on clear braces with clear ligs! Not amusing when you're out for a night on the town and having a nice dinner. I also learned that I drooled enough to drown myself once braced.

Miss Smiley I am with you on the drooling. In fact today I was doing something and not really thinking about my saliva and I began to just drool like crazy on myself. quite embarassing good thing no one was watching.
