Hello, newbie here :)

#1 Post by Zuke »

Hello everyone,

First off this is a great forum, I am learning so much already :)

I am 28 and just got my braces on Feb 7th, after getting 4 teeth extracted (the one behind the canines??). Ceramic uppers and metal lowers. I have elastics tying my canines to my 2nd to last molar. No bands on the molars, just brackets..so far...

I was afraid of the dentist all my life, didn't go until I was 23 for the first time and that led to my wisdom teeth taken out because they were impacted :( So it was not the best for me. Only had one cavity though, so I was happy about that!

But I have wanted to get my teeth straight for as long as I can remember, and I finally did it :) Took a great deal of nitrous oxide, but I am good now!

I was really worried about it, but now that they are on, I really didn't have much pain at all, a little bit of sore gums, but wax took care of that. So I have to say it has been great so far!

My estimate was 18-24 months. I go in for my first adjustment the end of March.

Glad to be here!

Thanks breal87 :)

I do have a quick question, a friend told me to be wary of developing tongue thrust when I got my braces. I looked it up on the internet and it sounds like it is something you keep from childhood.....can you develope that when you have braces?

Thanks!

Zuke: welcome to our forum. This is a great place and the people here are so knowledgeable; unfortunately, I'm not one of them. I wish I could help you re: the tongue thrust but just don't know anything there. But welcome and I'll check in periodically.

Hi and Welcome!

I've had a tongue thrust my whole life, and I've never heard of developing one with braces. I would ask your ortho, but I really doubt you could get a tongue thrust just by getting braces.
