I have had my braces for almost 5wks. I have never really experienced that so called awful pain. My teeth just feel sore. Know what I mean? Anyway, the thing that gets me is that I will go several days without feeling anything and then "bam", I will feel sore for a couple of days. Is that normal for the soreness to come and go? Also, one day I feel sore in a certain tooth and the next day I feel soreness in a totally different tooth???
I reckon this phenomenon of tenderness coming and going in different teeth must be pretty normal as I too experienced it! But don't worry, it gets much better once you've had them on for a while, I've had mine for almost six months now and only experience this tenderness after a major hardware upgrade (new arch wire/ repositioned bracket etc) now.
So hang in there, things DO get better!
It does happen. Teeth will move at different times. You may not want to do this, but it helps to bite down so that the healing process gets moving--biting down helps with the increasing blood flow so you heal faster. Also, if you hurt too much, you might relieve the pain by eating ice cream, drinking cold water or even sucking on ice cubes (don't bite). Most of our archwires are made of a heat activated alloy material which will stiffen when warm and will soften when cold. It does get better--this is your mantra now.
Yeppers, sure does in my case. I didn't have anything other than pressure when I got mine, how I am getting some pain, but only in certain teeth, sometimes a front tooth, sometimes a canine...etc....
Biting down on things for 15 seconds and then letting up..and doing this again and again really helps.....took the pain away for me
