wire not long enough

#1 Post by ryan1991 »

Today, the wire that was attactched to my bottom right band, has slipped out, and will not go back in... it seems as if the wire is too short, while the wire in the band on the bottom left is too much, and is actually seen behind the wire, basically toomuch there, if you understand what I am trying to describe.

Is this an indication that my teeth have moved, so the wire at that side has moved, meaning it cant reach the band, or another problem?

Im at the orthodontist on Friday, and hope it is not classed as a breakage, as they add 3 months onto my treatment time

i don't understand how/why the ortho would automatically add on 3 months whether is breakage or not. furthermore, if the condition's duration will be 4 days, i cannot imagine it makes that much difference.

you may need to talk to your ortho to clear up what you understand to be a policy of "if it breaks, we add 3 months treatment time." maybe they are just trying to scare you away from eating the forbidden foods that can break an archwire. let us know what s/he says.

It sounds like the wire has just slipped round. Didn't you post about this just recently? In any case, it doesn't count as a breakage. Breakages are things like broken brackets, which can potentially slow down your treatment if they are not quickly rebonded, or an actual bend or break in the archwire.

Ask your ortho if he can put a stopper on the wire, or bend the ends round behind your back teeth. That will stop the tendency of the wire to drift.
