Tension filled appointment....

#1 Post by newmetal »

So, as many of you may know, today i was booked in to have my lowers removed. Upon arrival the receptionist gave me a brace removal consent form, and as i am adamant on keeping my top brace on (against what my ortho wants to do), i kindly told her i will not sign anything until both arches are off. Although this may sound difficult to some, i felt i needed to make it clear that I don't actually consent to having both arches removed. (If you refer to my previous pics you will see why)

Onto the appointment. I entered the office and was greeted with the ortho raising the subject of removing both the uppers and lowers together today as, 'they both look done and ready." I was perplexed by this and I told him I was still not happy about the left lateral and felt it needed rounding to become symmetrical with the right. He told me he didn't know what i was chatting about and said he could not see any difference (even though, as many of you have agreed, there is a pretty big one). I continued to tell him that others have noted the difference in position of the laterals to which he responded, 'So you are not happy with what i have done?" (In a narked off manner). I went on to assure him that i thought the bottom arch was perfect and the working progress of the top arch has been great, but i still felt the left lateral needed rounding. This resulted in him snapping abruptly, "Well, we are not taking the top ones of anyway today". And he continued to get the tools out to remove the bottoms.

The removal process was very uncomfortable, and the ortho made it all the worst by constantly snapping at the new dental nurse (maybe because id p#%sed him off earlier), who to be fair was constantly sucking up my tongue with that hoover thing and allowing me to choke on the water (but in that case my ortho needs to make sure she has had the right training before starting 'on the job'). Anyway, after the polishing etc my bottom arch looks really good and i am really happy with it. Although all the celebrations were cut short by the ortho who just ended the appt without mentioning what he plans for the top arch and telling me to come back next week for the retainer.

Since the appt, a slight gap has formed where i had an extraction previously, im hoping when i get the retainer this will be rectified, if not i'll have to prepare to go for round 2 with my ortho. Saw a different side to this guy today, sort of questioning his professionalism now.

Many Thanks for reading guys.

newmetal - good for you, i'm glad you stuck up for yourself and told him that you are not happy. Hopefully the retainer will close that gap... But honestly it's like what is the harm with keeping the bottom on til the top come off you know?? It's just weird

good luck

Thanks for the responses guys. The whole treatment has looked shady for a while and i have to same ive kind of given up on braces. I don't think i will ever get the result i wanted and there is only so much fighting against your orthos decision that you can do before you end up both knocking your heads against walls.

Once again, thanks for the responses.
