Non-banded molars...

#1 Post by jgrrl22 »

Hey all,

I was just wondering if it's "normal" for your ortho to leave your back 4 molars un-bracketed and/or un-banded? My second to last molars on top and bottom are all banded, but my back molars have nothing.

Three of my molars don't really concern me as they are pretty much in line with the rest of my teeth anyway. But my top left molar is tipped at strange angle. I'm concerned that this might possibly cause problems once my braces come off. As it is right now (2 months into treatment) the side of my top molar touches down on the very middle of the molar beneath it. I'm wondering if this will cause possible bite problems in the end.

I know I need to voice my concerns with my ortho, but does anyone have any experience and/or opinions on this? I figure if I'm going to pay as much as I am for pretty teeth, I want ALL of them to be straight... even the very back ones that can't be seen by anyone but me!!!

I've posted on the other molar band type threads, but one more can't hurt.

Not all of my teeth are bracketed, and I've got no molar bands - you can see pics on the link in my sig. My ortho said that some of my teeth are in the correct place, so he didn't see a need to brace them.

It's not unusual, but if you're concerned, best to talk to the ortho.

My second molars are banded, but only because I needed some place to anchor my helices. The first molars are getting banded in 3 weeks for my braces.

Guess I'm lucky I had enough molars for all the hardware :) I think all 8 bands will end up becoming part of the braces in some manner.

I don't have any brackets on my second molars and on my wisdom teeth. The ortho said it wasn't necessary for me because these teeth don't need any movement. And I also don't have any molar bands just like Buffy. I think it's quite usual not to have brackets on all of your teeth.
