What would these be?

Today I got new wires. Both have these new parts I have never seen before on any of my other ones. The four laterals have what looks like
reinforced bits so the wire is kind of double layered in that part. Is this normal on the thicker wires? If its not just for strength what else is it for? Or could it just be a different brand of wire? So pleased to have moved on from the delicate ones! Even if theyre a bit more noticeable :).

Don't know what you have, but one of my adjustments the ortho did an "overlay" wire - so that I had two archwires threaded through the front 6 lower brackets for a while. This was early on in treatment. Is this sort of like what you have?

Hi danz23,

I have the same thing in a few spots. I asked at my last appt. and was told it was so the wire doesn't slip out( I have self-ligating) but I think it's also so the particular teeth that have them don't move. Are they on teeth that are pretty much in the right position now?
Keep smilin'! :)

hmm, interesting. One of the teeth that has it needs moving a bit more, it was one of my worst teeth (though its looking pretty good now). And I think the fact that its the four laterals kinda suggests something aswell. Like its not on random teeth....I dont know, maybe my thinner wires had it aswell and I just didn't notice. But yeah I have self ligating so it explains it (about helping the wire to not slip out). Coz thats happened to me before a few times with the bad tooth I mentioned before.
