Wondering

#1 Post by beth1966 »

Hi -

My ortho hasn't told me much about my treatment other then it will take about 18 months and that I will need elastics to help with my bite.

My teeth are reasonably straight - see my story and pics in the other forum for that. It is my bite that is the issue.

Just curious - if I was going to need head-gear or a TPA would he have told me by now???? Or are those things often unpredictable?

You should definitely talk to your ortho if you have questions. Whether or not they tell you anything is dependent on the particular ortho. I have had to ask my ortho everything, and I still come up with questions after every visit (and often after visits to these boards). Depending on how you respond to your treatment, things may come up. I would suggest writing down questions you have so that you can ask at your next appointment.

Thanks- actually I usually write the questions down and by doing that they are memorized and I ask him when i am there. As for the TPA I know I don't need it, as I already asked him if my palate would need to be expanded and he said no. Headgear, kind of doubt it but even if I did, I trust him and his treatment plan - no turning back now! :)

I was just wondering if he would have mentioned those things or if sometimes they just present as necessary further into the treatment plan so perhaps as patients we will never know for sure.

I'm wondering the same things and hoping I'll remember/have a chance to ask my ortho at my next visit.

So far all I know is that I'm getting extractions and then the goal is to move the front teeth back and close the gaps. He said in the beginning that I won't have headgear, but that's about all I know. At my last appointment I didn't even know about all the different orthodontic appliances that I've since seen and learned about on this forum, but now I'm really curious.

I hope he has time because I'm going to have lots of questions for him when I next see him!
