Bracket glue preventing me from flossing-will my teeth move?

#1 Post by jenny101101 »

Hi everyone,

I've had my uppers on for almost 2 months and my lowers put on 3 days ago. The assistant that put my uppers on did a fabulous job(very little excess glue) but my lowers are a different story. I flossed my lowers for the first time last night(too sore to do before then) and I couldn't get the floss between two of my teeth. I realised there is hardened cement/glue preventing my from getting between them. I'm worried about this(obviously).

Is there anything I can do at home to "grind" or "pick" it off? Or should I leave it alone and just call my ortho on Monday to see if they can remove it? I need to floss there as one of the spots covered with glue is between two molars on the side I chew most often(the other spot is between my lateral incisor and canine). Also, I'm concerned that my teeth won't space out because the glue is holding them together!?!?!

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! :D
Keep smilin'! :)

Hmm, that seems kind of bad that you cannot floss your teeth. I would just mention it to your doctor at your next visit. One good thing is that if you can't reach the floss down in there, probably there's not much stuff getting stuck in those teeth. However food particles/bacteria are smaller than floss... If you are really upset about it, just call your doctor and tell him/her. I wouldn't recommend trying to chip away at the glue yourself. You'll probably just get annoyed, break a bracket, or both. :)

I had the same problem and worries. Every night when I floss, I try to floss through the glue but I don't force it... if it doesn't go through, it doesn't - just move on to the next teeth. After a few nights, it would go through and I don't have that problem anymore.

I try to floss through the glue the same way I floss under the gum line, gently on the teeth moving under the gums, back and forth several times at different angles.

Don't try to chip it away... if it could be removed THAT easily, it wouldn't hold the brackets to your teeth!

If the glue is stuck fast, your teeth won't move. I would suggest you call your ortho's office and schedule a visit to have it removed.

I had that same issue in a couple of spots where my teeth overlap. After the third time of trying to floss my teeth had put enough pressure from trying to move that when I flossed again it just popped right out. Now I can floss there just fine. I had the same concern that my teeth wouldn't move due to this problem but eventually the archwire started to do its job and the teeth were liberated! Good luck!
