Foods to eat with Hirax in, please help

#1 Post by kimblebee »

I just got my hirax put in today for my upper palate expansion June 3rd. I already hate it. I'm drooling non stop, finding it very difficult to speak and eating my lunch here is very difficult. I packed loose ground beef not realizing the appliance was going in today and all of the meat is getting stuck. I'm finding it very difficult trying to swallow, it's like a puddle in my mouth.

I know I sound like a whiner but I really need some advice and help. Is there a list of friendly foods for this thing? The thought of being stuck with it for a month is worrisome but I KNOW it will be worth it in the end.

I work for a call centre and really need some help with speaking as well. Does it get any better?

Kimblebee - I can relate to your frustration. I've only had my expander for about 2 1/2 weeks, but things have already gotten better. My excessive saliva stopped after 3 or 4 days and speaking gets better after the first week. You said you work in a call center, which must be difficult right now, but the more you talk the easier it will get. I practiced reciting "The Rainbow Passage" which was suggested to me on this forum. You can search the forum for it, or just Google it.

Unfortunately, food does get stuck in it all the time. I use a Waterpik to dislodge whatever's left when I'm done eating.

That said - I'll still be glad when it's gone!

Thank you Sunny.

I noticed today seems to be a bit better for talking. I'm hoping it gets even better with time though as I'm having a hard time just saying my name and certain letters lol. :)

I'm really looking forward to having the surgery done on June 3rd!
