Unpleasant facial changes- flaps of loose skin around smile

#1 Post by QKate »

What to do? sorry I don't have pics but recently I now have these loose flaps of skin around my smile lines- which look horrible.
I think it is because my teeth were very far forward. Now they are moved back but I thinkt he skin was stretched taut over the cheeks and now it is loose.

I really do not want to have to get plastic surgery to correct this.
What else can I do? It is gross.
Anyone else have this from moving the teeth back?
I am a 35 year old woman and very self conscious about it.

Hi i am trying to imagine what you mean about the loose skin around your smile I bet it dosen't look as bad as you think. Maybe you could try those facial exercises where you have to make different shapes with your mouth like the letter O etc. supposed to be good for the circulation in your cheeks too!

Here's my two cents, based on what you said...

If the cause is actually that your skin was stretched over your teeth and your teeth are no longer pushing on the skin, creating a sag, consider this...

I have a friend who had gastric bypass a few years ago. At the time, she was around 300 pounds. In the first year or so after the surgery, while she was rapidly dropping weight, the skin on her arms and such was *really* floppy. She even mentioned having the surgery to "lift" that skin.

But you know, a year later, that skin has tightened up quite a bit! I don't know how much elasticity you have to work with, but it should be decent at your age. If you wanted some advice on what you could do to improve tightening, you could see a dermatologist. Otherwise, wait a while and see if it tightens up some over time. Good luck to you!

I had lived with lip strain and now that my protrusion has been pulled in, I've been using facial exercises (eating, chewing, and smiling more) to adjust my facial muscles. You're not much older than I so, I'm sure you won't have to resort to plastic surgery. I doubt you look like Droopy from those old Warner Bros. cartoons.

Once all of your molars are pushed to where they are supposed to be and your arch is out of its narrow stage your face will look full again. I went through this stage too it was not pleasant. I am still not happy with what I see my face used to be round and since my ortho extracted my bicuspid one side of my face sunk in, its not quite as sunken in as it was before but I def lost all my trust in the ortho cause he basically called me a liar when the proof is in the photos I have, before and afters.

If you didnt have any extractions you should return to looking the way you did. If you had extractions your face change will be the result of the relationship between the gums and teeth. I have learned alot through thsi bad experience. For me it has def been a regrettable experience. I am only 26, currently going through the crooked face stage of braces after a single extraction on one side, slowly it's getting better but my face becomes more narrow with every tighteneing... So I am not looking forward to coming in for a tighteneing in 2weeks. =(

Good luck.

more narrow with every tighteneing
Braces are not "tightened" they are adjusted. They haven't been tightened braces in over 20 years. Just so you know.
