Anyone get braces for the same reason as me?

#1 Post by annab79 »

Hello! I just got metal braces put on my top teeth Monday. I'm 28, and have never had them. My teeth are actually really straight, but they tilt back a bit, which has gotten a little more pronounced in recent years. My dentist recommended braces (no other easy fix available!) to pull them forward, as he said they would continue to shift. My goal for wearing braces is to gain a smile that is more prominent, and to correct a minor overbite. Did anyone else here get braces for this reason? I'm having trouble visualizing the result I'll have. Thanks!

hi there, welcome to the board .... you will find lots support heres.

I have similar sort of in that I need my front teeth tilted back out too . ..... but my overbite is also a very deep bite ( from what I have been able to see so far most people with an overbite have teeth tilted out and get them brought back it

just shows we are all different and individual in our needs

Not quite the same, but my two central uppers were tilted in. My ortho told me they were commonly referred to "rabbit" teeth??

See my result below! It's hard to see that my two centrals were tipped inward as those laterals steal the attention.

Hope this is of some help as you wait others....

Hi annab79! Very nice to meet you!

Yes, I got braces again for that very same reason!! I had braces 8 years ago. My teeth were nice and straight when finished, but I guess in order to make my overjet less visible, the ortho left my top front teeth tilted inwards slightly (??). It wasn't until years later that I figured out what it was about my smile that I did not like...my top front teeth were tilting inwards instead of being straight or angled out slightly. I hated that about my smile. So, that and the fact that my bite was deepening and I was chipping teeth, brought me to a new orthodontist. I have had top braces for 4 months now, and I am so excited about the progress. My top front teeth have already been pulled forward quite a bit! No more chipping teeth either! I do have more of an overjet now, which I don't mind. To me it looks much better than my teeth tilting inwards. My ortho wants to fix my overjet by moving all my top teeth back in my jaw. Not so sure I want to do that. He is going to wait to see how severe my overjet becomes before deciding to move my whole top arch back (using mini screws). :?

Before 2nd braces, top front tilt inwards

Although my teeth are not perfectly straight, my teeth are angled inwards quite a lot. I do not have an overbite, but i do have quite a deep bite. My crookedness didn't bother me too much, it was more the angle of my teeth which bothered me. I am excited to see my progress, along with everyone elses :D I have only been braced for 2 weeks.

Good luck!

It's so nice to hear others' stories... I will try to share some pics, once I take some. So far it's been 4 days. Still quite sore, and having trouble chewing. I'm so sick of yogurt and cottage cheese, I could scream! :) Thanks again for your advice and support!

Sounds like I have a very similar problem. My front teeth are tilted back causing there to be not enough room for my lower jaw. My lower jaw will come forward naturally quite a bit when the top teeth are where they should be.

I just got my braces on yesterday. It will be fun to have a braces buddy with the same problem!

Another one with inwards tilted teeth here. My case has similarities to jennielee81 but my crowding is more severe. My ortho will make room for my crooked teeth by tipping my front ones outward. :)

I got mine partially for the same reason. I had crowding in my front teeth due to a narrow dental arch as well as a significant overbite. Over the years, my teeth had tipped back to compensate for the overbite. I have rather full lips which helped hide this condition and made my profile remain symetrical.

In the 3.5 weeks that I have had braces, my crowding is gone and my teeth are not tipping in as much. So far I am insanely please with my progress!
