Hi Cobbler! :) I'm Eh to Zed... Ouch, braces, eh? Well, I don't know when you will see any noticeable changes... For me it was a month or 2...
To go back to eating like normal is about 2 days to a week! For me it was 2 days.

Hi Cobbler,

The first two days are the hardest. Just pick foods that are on the soft side such at eggs, pasta, mashed potatoes, chicken cut up small, peanut butter on soft bread.

As far as movement goes, everyone is different. I got my braces on a Thursday afternoon and I needed my wires trimmed on Monday afternoon (4 days later)

I hope that this helps.

I've not got mine yet (one more extraction to go first, then uppers go on on Monday) but I hear that teeth move about 1mm per month on average.

I have both uppers and lowers and I'm still not eating like I used to. I suspect I won't for the whole duration... I can't believe people who have braces say you will eat like normal....it's impossible!

Hey there cobbler05, congrats!

Did your ortho provide some pictures or a mold of your teeth pre-braces? If so, you can use these for comparison. I started noticing movement within a day or 2, and it's usually the most dramatic and noticeable at the beginning of your treatment.

I had a hard time eating for probably the first 2 weeks. Mac & Cheese was my go-to food. Just take it easy and try to stick to the softer foods for now - soup, pasta, etc. Oh, and if you're like me and need protein to feel like you've had a good meal, try sloppy joes - you can prepare it the same way as normal but just eat it with a fork. After a month or so, you'll find you can eat mostly anything - the key is taking smaller bites.

Hope this helps!

Hi
congrats on being braced!
I've found that it took just under 3 weeks for me to be eating anywhere near 'normal', gradually worke dup to it though, wasn't like I've been on soup for 3 weeks and then tadah! to normal food.
But I have pesky molar buildups in which has made it harder for me to get used to eating.
But have got there finally. Some things take longer to eat but can still manage.
I'm 22 days on now and I'm starting to see a difference in my teeth, I don't think anyone else would though..just with me scrutinising my teeth every day when cleaning them..I'm seeing a few extra gaps between my teeth on the top that weren't there before.
