How long did you wait for your very FIRST adjustment?

#1 Post by nomorecrowd »

I just got my braces put on yesterday. The assistant told me that it will be 10 weeks before my first adjustment. My treatment time is one year and two and a half months without an adjustment seems so long. Is this normal? I thought it was 4- 6 weeks. I have mild crowding nothing too extreme and i want to make progress not just sit with these things on.

Completely normal, don't panic. The wire will still be working for you during that period. And you don't have to have pain in order to have movement either.

Congrats on being braced!

When i went to make the appointment for my first adjustment, it said on the slip 6-8 weeks. I've actually got a 6 week time wait but I guess it could've just been 8 depending on what the appointment list was like.

My braces weren't sore the first day but boy they were sore the second day. Then the discomfort subsided and came back a few days later for a day and went away again.
Some days I don't notice I have braces on at all, other days I can really feel them (although can't say I've ever been in pain, more discomfort and ache than anything else)
It may also depend on the thickness of the wire your ortho has put in for a start. I know my first wire is really thin. I'm dreading to think what size I'm getting next week!

But my teeth are definately moving...you don't need to be conscious of it for movement to occur.

My first adjustment had been arranged to be nine weeks after I got my brace. I thought this was longer than normal, but it seems to be not too uncommon.

The 'norm' seems to be 4-6 weeks.
Upper brace on 23rd June 2008
Lower brace on 27th August 2008
Expected treatment time: 30 months

I just had my first adjustment this past week and the time between then and first getting my braces on was seven weeks. (And that seemed long to me!)

Mine was 10 weeks too, but this was because it was over the Christmas/New Year holiday period and the soonest they could fit me in. I was a bit annoyed too as I was desperate to keep things moving from the start but the good community of archwired informed me that the wire would carry on doing its work throughout so there was no need to worry.

I'm sure they offered you that date for a reason and that the longer wait won't be detrimental to your treatment. Congrats on getting started and I hope everything goes great for you!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess being worried about things is just part of the process. I feel better now.

Lucky You!!!!!!!!! I was told I'd be going in for adjustments every 6-8 weeks. I have already had 2 adjustments and I've had to go in every 5 weeks and my next one is also in 5 weeks. I absolutely HATE adjustments so an extra week would be greatly welcomed...10 weeks would be like Heaven!!

I TECHINCALLY waited 10 weeks between my banding and first adjustment, but I had either 2 or 3 SOS appointments in between -- where they changed out elastic strengths (first they mailed them, then I was seen) and where they adjusted the bite turbos and clipped a wire and I think they might have even changed a spring around, can't remember.

I have Damon's and I am supposed to wait 10 weeks between, however I have had many mini-adjustments done at SOS appointments. I have severe TMJ, so I have been seen a lot because of the braces causing problems with my jaw... biting issues... chewing issues, etc... I have yet to break anything, so I don't feel guilty going in for appointments when there are other problems.

My estimated time of treatment is 18months with main appointments around 10 weeks apart, at least in the beginning - I guess.

My adjustments are supposed to be 10-12 weeks apart. My first adjustment will be at 9 weeks because the orthodontist is on vacation after that. I'm told that near the end of treatment, the adjustments will be closer together.

My first adjustment after I got my braces for scheduled out for 5 weeks. I ended up having my first adjustment at 3 weeks b/c I was having issues of biting into my lower brackets.

My ortho schedules out appointment between 2-8 weeks. So far I've gone every 5-6 weeks.

Started the journey for the second time on January 10th 2008~Ceramic uppers and metal lowers. Removed on June 2nd 2009.
