Braces and swimming

#1 Post by jjpj »

OK so I swim like 2 hours per day 5 days per week. I noticed some people said here that breathing through mouth is no good or something like that when in braces. Am i little paranoid or what?
Please advise. Any swimmers here?

What does your ortho say about this? I mean, athletes get braces all the time - this shouldn't really be that big of a deal and maybe your braces can be adjusted to fit your lifestyle...

Hi there.
When I first had braces when I was younger, I was on a local swim team and had absolutely no problems. (Well, my flip-turns were horrendous, but that didn't have anything to do with braces. )
And when I was on my high school swim team, there were a few other girls with braces.
So I don't think having braces should impede you from swimming whatsoever.

I'm with chef - go and swim.

I've been a swimmer these past several decades, swam through the braces experience with no ill effect.
