I just went in today for my 6th month check up and adjustment. All that I had done was changing of my ligs but then the ortho told the assistant to take me to get x-rays. I asked her what this was for and she said that it was to find out if my roots where in their correct positions and if they werent then on my next adjustment (Aug. 12) I would need my brackets repositioned. Question: What exactly is done in this process and how long does this take? I hope someone can help...Thanks in advance....oh yeah good news..if i dont need repositioning then they will start to close my gaps!!!! yay!!!!

They remove selected brackets and place new ones in different positions. If your brackets are all metal, they should snap off easily. Ceramics can involve a little more work. The placing of new brackets is no different to what would have happened when you first got braces.

Thanks lionfish! I was just wondering because I didnt really know what the process was...I kinda figured they would move the brackets around but I didnt really know what exactly they would do.

It sounds painful... but I sure hope my ortho does x-rays and finds out the condition of my roots. I want to REALLY know how things are progressing.

It's not painful, purpleteeth. I've had a couple of brackets repositioned and the only horrible bit was having the old glue ground off my teeth before my ortho put the bracket back on.

I had 2 brackets repositioned once, and all the Ortho did was take this little device that looked like little pliers, and kind of pinched the brackets off. They just popped off. Then as Lisa65 said, the worst was getting the glue sanded off. Oooh, and then getting the teeth re-etched.:yuck: Yucky taste! But, the whole ordeal took just a few minutes or so.

Anyway, good luck!
