When did you start seeing movement?

#1 Post by shan*rock »

I know this is gonna vary a lot for everyone. But I'm just curious to hear when those who already have their braces on first started to see movement. I'm only a week in, but I'm so anxious to see things start happening. So far nothing.

The only thing I was looking at was my gap between my two front teeth. So I couldn't really tell just by looking at it everyday if it was really closing so I tried to measure it..but didn't have the correct measuring tools. So after about 1.5 months I could tell it was kinda closing. Then once she put the powerchains on.. 3 days after my adjustment..I seen dramatic changes.

I had very minor movement for the first 3 months - the third month I've had MASSIVE changes and can barely recognise my mouth as being my own. I haven't had loose teeth or popping that people speak of...and I've only had 'pain' this past week - it isn't really pain, it's headache but I'm happy to deal with the headache because I know it is due to deep structural change that is going on right now. I'm sure it will calm down soon.

It took me about 3 weeks to notice movement. My two front teeth were kinda on top of each other...now, I have a gap between the two. Supposedly, they had to break them apart in order to straighten them up. Oh yeah, I noticed how with some teeth, I couldnt really see a difference, but you can feel a diff. For example, it use to hurt to floss between two particular teeth, although I cant see a difference, I notice how I can now floss between them ;)

So yeah, it does vary for everyone. Be patient though, you'll see results before you know it!

Within a day or two. My movement was immediate and I still see movement almost immediately after I get a new wire or they change something up -- springs, powerchains, elastics... yup -- I have had immediate movement, not to mention the pain that accompanies it.

I had my braces on for 3 weeks and went back to the ortho to have elastics put on and they said I had quite a bit of movement! I was really excited. I am seeing changes already from just that most recent adjustment. I did not have teeth pulled and the ortho is using a zip file to make some room between my tight teeth...those spaces that they created are almost gone.

I like what the ortho asst. said to me: "Your teeth will get uglier before they get prettier." Everything gets moved around and moved around until it comes to its final resting place.

I saw movement after 2-3 days. At that time, I wasn't sure whether I could really trust my eyes, so I started doing photos.

With a more trained eye, I know now there were loads of movement.

After a few weeks, I kind of lost interest. I stopped taking photos. I see and feel plenty of movement even without pics to prove it. My bite corrects, my molars start to connect differently, so I know things are happening. And the pain after each adjustment adds to the conviction. (I never thought it could possibly be hard to chew "well done" spaghetti)

Don't worry. Everybody's teeth move. Odds are, yours will, too.

Haha I totally know what you mean. I used to take pictures every month to compare my progress, but I stopped around the 4th or 5th month. Now I have only about 2 more months to go and I kind of wish I had more to look back and compare on :(

The very first and second day. My three back molars were crowded and zig-zagged. They began to hurt as I left from getting the braces put on. Then that night, the wire started poking me big time. I went back two days later to have some of the wire trimmed and he said the wire was poking out because there was already some movement. And when I opened my mouth, I could see that the three teeth were actually more in line than they were before.

I saw small changes after 2 weeks. I took progress pics weekly for the first month or so. I couldn't always see changes from one week to the next but if I scrolled through my pics I could see changes over a period of time. After 5 months in, my teeth looked considerably different.

My upper laterals started moving after a few days but it took weeks for the other teeth to budge. Like 3 weeks. I was happy about those two but after 3 weeks I was like C'MON! MOVE IT! And then they did, so all is well. After 4 months I barely recognize my mouth. I look at day 1 photos and am so pleased with the movement I've seen so far. I get brackets on my 2nd molars on the 14th!! YAY!!

If I hadn't read this thread, I wouldn't have believed myself. I had the braces put on my lower teeth 5 days ago, and I'm seeing a difference. I have an overbite, and I was looking in the mirror today, and I could swear my soul patch was protruding. Gonna shave it off tonite for a better look at my face.

I had movement within the first 2-3 days because I needed to get my wires clipped. The first movement that I truly noticed was at about 7-10 days.
