When Did Molly Ringwald Get Braces

#1 Post by neilar »

I read that Molly Ringwald wore braces, but I wondered when she had them on. Was this after the movies Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club? I wanted to see if there was a difference in her apppearance after orthodonture.
Thanks.
PS: I've done an Internet search with no success.

I can't recall that I've ever seen a photo of her with braces so perhaps it was pre all those movies?

When Did Molly Ringwald Have Braces

#3 Post by neilar »

To me, she looks considerably different now than she did in those movies. Her smile and shape of her face have changed. I suspect that braces caused this. Please let me know if anyone comes across some information.
Thanks!

Every tooth in a man's head is more valuable to him than a diamond Cervantes-

The subject of extraction's is a controversial one indeed. I tend to agree with Neilar. I'am one of the 'pull them back' babes of the 70-80's within orthodontistry.
Where I agree, that Million's of people have treatment, and suffer no ill after affects. I believe there are also a large proportion of people like myself, walking around with an unattractive profile, and a myriad of ailments due to my teeth. Mainly TMJ.
My arch is barely there! I can remember as a 13 yr old(41 now) lying in bed with the cage brace(not the correct name) strapped around my head, thinking

'But there is no room for my tongue to rest'.

Obviously, I was not aware at that young age, that my upper arch was being crowded into almost oblivian. I had numerous extraction... 8 I think.

Not satisfied with this, at 18 years age.. long after braces. My General Dentist, thought it would be a good idea to yank out all of my 4 wisdom teeth. Which had not given me so much as a twinge of pain throughout my life!

He decided that they MIGHT.. muck up all the good work that had been done. Mmmm.

I dislike my saucer shaped profile so much, I would go as far as to say, it has affected my confidence greatly. I can also always spot an adult who has worn braces fro the 80's. As their teeth look like they are screaming for space in their narrow jaws.. a bit like mine.

I completed a course of splint therapy last year, which worked in conjunction with an Osteopath who had an interest in this. Has alleviated some of my symptoms. Cost me a packet. The NHS, told me that my TMJ was not as servere as other's'
rs.. thanks!! ever heard of prevention Doc!
I now have to decide if orthodontisry again would be wise, as I'm sure due to all the extraction's, I would be left with big gaps, if my teeth moved.

I haven't managed to up load a pic.. would like to though. My bottom teeth are basically caved in, and look odd

Molly has certainly (as have I) gained a bit of weight over the years. This also adds to any face changes.

Here's a picture of her around the time of the movies:

Here's one after that time period:

Here's a more recent one. I don't see a striking difference, nor do I see any lack of teeth in that smile:

No, I'm not a stalker  , I was curious about all of this and went looking for toothy pix of her.

I looked at pictures of Molly last night as well lol. She looks the same to me. If she did have work done post breakfast clubs, etc...there seemed to be no reason. her teeth were fine. and in fact, her teeth look the same to me. She just looks like a grown up...which :o happens to us all.

I hated my profile before braces. I had bucked front teeth and croweded lowers. The ortho said the change would help me to have more of a chin. I still dont. My chin sort of slopes into my neck. My profile is convex...forehead goes out and chin goes in. its not attractive...but it wasnt before. im sure without the braces i would have been a saggy ball of wrinkles at 80 anyway. lol. inevitable. However, i have a gait. My face is very crooked. half of my teeth start higher up in the gums even though they are all aligned at the bottom. oh well, at least my bite is no longer causing teeth to chip.

I know this is a really old thread, but I thought I'd answer...

I happen to be sick (or more accurately, having a particularly acute TMJ Disorder flareup) and have been flipping through channels on a sunny day. I came across a really old episode of The Facts of Life, when Molly was on the show. I haven't seen these since I was about 4. I notice she has a lisp and difficulty delivering lines, holds her mouth in odd positions, and has noticeably crooked upper teeth. She is probably about 13, so it's not because they're still growing in or whatever. She simply needed braces.

I used to get compared to Molly a lot when I was a kid, though I am not a redhead and she's so famous for that, and I see the similarities more now that I see her with her "original teeth" (not to mention her naturally dark hair). I never got braces...keep trying but cannot afford it and now need a LOT of dental work as well as jaw reconstruction.

She has perfect teeth just a few years later in 16 Candles. So, she obviously had orthodontia during those few years (between about 1981-1984?). I'm sure there are pics online, or probably a video somewhere where you can see her very different teeth on The Facts of Life. I wish I'd gotten her braces at that age; she looks so similar to me in the show and has such a hard time moving her mouth and such that it makes me uncomfortable to watch...I have been living with that for 20 years now. My face would have grown in better, too. Ah well, off to figure out how to make bucketloads of money to treat this condition which is NOT purely cosmetic or vain and has cost me a lot of pain and time and money. I'm glad Molly got those braces as she not only would never have gotten her famous roles, but was obviously in for years of future pain, trouble with speaking and self-confidence, and other more severe problems due the malocclusion. P.S. - I miss Molly! What's she up to...?
