Treatment Plan - Estimation of Costs

#1 Post by mariea »

Hi All. I got the Damon 3 on last Saturday. I phoned my dentist last Wednesday & asked him for a treatment plan for Saturday before I got the braces on. When I arrived he had none ready for me. What is the treatment plan & what does it set out? One of the girls in my office told me to get this treatment plan/estimation of cost.

My dentist has not confirmed to me when the braces will be off. He said that another patient of his was done within a year & he thought the same for me, should I get this in writing??

A treatment plan outlines what is wrong with your teeth (usually written in ortho-speak) it may also outline the type of braces you are getting and any other appliances that you may also be getting. It usually estimates a treatment time as well. All these things are educated guesses though, and may change as things progress. Never the less, your ortho should have at least spoken to you about what he/she was planning on doing if not given it to you in writing. The financial end of things should most definitely be spelled out in writing. That way there is no misunderstanding on either end.

I get my braces on next month, but my Orthodontist has already sent me my financial agreement for me to sign and bring in on brace day. This outlines the total cost, how much i need to put down and what my monthly payments will be.

Are you seeing an actual orthodontist? Because you are saying dentist..

Hi all thanks again for your answers... he is a dentist and not an orthodontist... ive checked that out but here in Ireland that can be common.... he has over 30years experience and he told me the amount for the treatment was all in... but he never put it in writing and to top all of this off I have white bonded fillings on my front two teeth which causes extra problems and if the brackets on the front teeth crack it is more than likely that the bond would too... I was so excited to finally be getting my teeth done that I jumped at the chance and then when they were on started to get really concerned ready the message boards on here that maybe i should have went with other treatment.... im glad and worried at the same time... he told me 12 months but i have an overbite...

Well, the good news is that now that you're on ArchWired, you now know to be proactive with your treatment and you can take steps to stay informed about your treatment.

A lot of people get treated by dentists who aren't orthodontists. You can still get great results so don't let that bother you too much. Just remember to remain proactive about any concerns you have.

When I first went in for the consultation, I got an outline of the total cost, which included what the down payment would be and the monthly payments.

Then on the day of the impressions and x-rays I had to make the "records" payment for that procedure and was asked to sign the agreement.

The braces were put on 5 weeks later which is when I had to give them the down payment.
