One month to go and....will I be happy with the results?

#1 Post by married2abuckeye »

I just had my last adjustment the other day, and I have a debanding date set for November 4th - yahoo!!! However, in my mind there still seems to be a bit of progress to make and I am wondering if I'll be happy with how my teeth look on that day. I started with a pretty big overjet and overbite, and now the overbite seems to be alright, but I feel like I still have an little overjet (not just overlapping tops/bottoms).

I'm sure most of us are nervous prior to debanding since we can't really see what our smile looks like until the braces come off, but I'm wondering if anyone has felt their smile just wasn't done cooking yet, or if anyone told the ortho NOT to take the braces off...

I will get my braces off in one month. Mine will be removed because I am moving away. the ortho thinks my teeth are almost ready. I will have couple of detailing appointments before the braces are off.

I had an ovebite and overjet, too. My overbite is gone, but i think i still have some overjet. But I dont know if I can get rid of it without extractions or jaw surgery anyway.

Do you have appointments before your braces are off? I just had one yesterday and the ortho did some details and added powerchains, metal lacings and wire tires. My teeth are very sore now.

I too have just 6 weeks til debanding - Nov 6th and I am psyched. This is my second time with braces as an adult and this time I will have had them on for 11 months. My teeth moved right back to where they were 15 years ago when they were last straight.

I am happy with how my teeth look and I am ready for the braces to come off. I'll be getting permanent retainers on both bottom and top and will definitely not make the same mistake twice! :D

Congratulations! I too am getting mine off in the near future and am a little unsure. I told myself at the beginning that I would stick it out until they were perfect but at this point I kinda feel like I'm sick of my ortho and his staff (and they are sick of me too  ) and I just want this over with.

I think that as long as you let your ortho know what is bothering you you should be OK. That way you can get an idea if your issues are fixable and how long it should take to resolve them. If at that point you decide that its not that big of a deal than that's cool - just make sure that you voice your concerns.

Maybe you should give your ortho a call for a quick appointment to get movin' on the changes you'd like to see. I wouldn't wait for the debanding appointment to bring this stuff up - go in soon. This is all for you so make sure that you are happy.

To answer your question  : at my last 2 adjustments my ortho was ready to take these suckers off (I did not know this before going to the appointments) but I had to say "hey - there are some things I don't like". It took him by surprise and I felt like I was being a pain but hey, I paid way too much money to be done before I'm satisfied. Although I have learned to accept that perfection is not the norm and some things just can't be fixed, I'm glad I told him what I was thinking.
