soreness when braces are removed

#1 Post by metalmander »

hi, i haven't posted here in a long time but i've still been lurking pretty frequently. here is my question: i keep reading that there is at least some level of pain when your braces are removed - i get that. what i'm curious about is what the pain is from exactly....

is some of the pain you guys are talking about related to your teeth being sore, as they get for many people during treatment? or are you just talking about the pain that anyone (braces or not) would have when their teeth have lots of pressured applied to them?

my last adjustment was extremely painful because my ortho decided he wanted to reposition one of my ceramic brackets on my top arch. he removed the bracket he wanted to replace, and it was extremely painful. i'd say a level 8. my teeth were very sore at the time, as they usually are about 4 or so weeks after an adjustment (the frequency of the last few appointments i have left).

has anyone experienced this when getting their braces removed?

all brackets are taken off the same way, as the bracket you had removed ,there popped off , by putting the plier on the bracket an squeezing at the glue line , this braeks the bond an bracket is free, an yes some times this can be a tad painfull , mostly for back teeth , however everyone deal with pain in different ways , i may not think it's so bad an some may tearup , best of luck to you

I heard that ceramics are harder to get off than metal
when I had to get a bracket repositioned it didn't hurt at all but I think it was because it was already loose.
