LOPSIDED TEETH

#1 Post by dugsmom »

I've been in braces for 6 months and have been very happy with the progress...at least until recently. I noticed that my bottom teeth are lopsided...my teeth on my left side are way up higher than my right side. It is very obvious and looks terrible...I've been in elastics for about 2 weeks or so...could that be why my bottom teeth are lopsided? Has anyone experienced this?

I am not sure if is the same, but if you look at my pics in my story, the latest ones, you can see that my bottom teeth are loopsided. I have been in elastics since day 1 and this started to happen after a month till now. It looks horrible when i smile or talk and can't wait to get it corrected.

I am exactly the same. Hopefully they get corrected soon. I have not had elastics yet. You can click on my "www" link to look at the photos. They are only really uneven towards the last couple of months.

my teeth are the same. On top from my left lateral incisor to my right lateral incisor my teeth slightly slant up so my left lateral is longer than my right lateral.
Also, on my bottom my front 6 teeth are all different lengths.
Since I've had my braces on my top laterals have been different lengths and I brought this up at my first adjustment, but they didn't do anything. I was waiting to see if this would be corrected later in treatment, it still hasn't been so I'll be forced to talk to them about it at the next adjustment. They are working on leveling my bottom teeth, its coming a long a little bit, but still doesn't look great.

Here's what I got at my adjustment Monday:
Image

A nice big elastic in the front of my mouth. As you can see my lowers seem to be going down hill--hopefully this takes care of it. My ortho said that I should wear this elastic as much as possible, figuring that I wouldn't wear it at work but so far I've worn it full time. He said that if everything looks good in a month he'd be ready to take them off. We'll see what happens but so far on the discomfort scale this elastic ranks somewhere near spacers. I'm looking forward to seeing if it does its job so I can get these off--the novently of having braces is starting to wear off.

acd,

I had an adjustment wednesday and I also got a similar elastic in the front of my mouth, but just goes half way, the corner that is going down. The elastics are to do what yours is supposed to do asn my teeth look like they are going downhill as well.
I am looking forward to see how they work for you. Keep us posted. I will put some pics up later today in my story.

Hi dugsmom,

my lower teeth were noticeably like that about 8 months into braces. It's because (I think) my ortho is shifting my midline a couple of millimeters, and that some teeth are slightly leaning and/or intruded while moving. Right now my four lower incisors look like a stack of lopsided books and there's an obvious dip on one side making my teeth look like a wonky staircase. I think it's a matter of things looking a little ugly before they look good.

Yep, mine are the same way, see:

My ortho put me in what they called "anterior box elastics - right side only" at my last appt. Supposedly, this will completely correct my crossbite, and pull the lopsided teeth back into alignment, then I'll be ready for debanding.

acd - Your teeth/bite is very similar to mine, and the treatment sounds like it's going about the same... I'll have to keep tabs to see if your elastics work, cuz if mine don't, I'm gonna bring up that formation to my ortho LOL And yep, novelty is definitely gone

Hi Flaka--I can't tell if they are working yet or not. My molars meet on the right side but my canines are still hitting on the left side. Sometimes it looks like the slant is better but then I'll look at it again and it looks the same as before. I had an adjustment on the 10th and got a new lower wire to help make my lower teeth fit better with my uppers and I am still wearing the same elastic configuration.

Here's my latest picture:

Believe it or not I have completely gotten used to the front elastic to the point that when I don't have it in it feels strange. Like a lot of what I’ve experienced with braces it hurt like hell for two days and then felt fine. The only time I don’t wear it is while eating and brushing. I spent two weeks in business meetings and wore it the whole time. At this point I don't care what my elastics or any other part of my braces look like--I just want my teeth to move where they are supposed to so I can get them off. I go back on December 8th. Hopefully by them my left side molars will meet instead of my canines.

Shmo—Do you have more than one elastic or is just wrapped around several times? Yours look like they are tighter than mine. Good luck—it looks like you’re close to the end.

It's just one elastic... it's just hooked on the lower, twisted around the upper, and hooked back on the lower.... Thanks :D Good luck to you, too!

I was reading a bit on one of the articles that are often linked to from here, and it said that the orthodontist will fix your teeth in a certain order. They usually align your teeth into the nice pretty curve of the archwire FIRST, and then they will focus on the horizontal alignment of your teeth with elastics and that sort of deal.

I have really hmm... lopsided upper teeth, too right now. I don't think anyone really notices but me, and I'm sure my ortho has a plan to fix it all.

Mine still loopsided (they werent when i started). At the begining, it looked like the bite was closing but it does not look like the downhill-uphill < thing is going away And if it is closing, still the leveling is not right. The lowers feel like the were coming forward actually, and my top canine touches the lower canine bracket. Its very weird this whole braces-elastics thing. Sometimes i feel like they will never going to get fixed. I know I have to be patience but its so hard. I is very obvious in pictures and when I talk....I is driving me bananas.

I just want this fixed, I dont care how long it will take the rest. Sorry for venting.

This is when I got the elastics on the front

This is 18 days later

And these days it looks like its going back to the first pic. I also wear elastics on the back.
