Is my dentist drill happy?????

#1 Post by yankeegyrl95 »

Ok, today I went to the dentist to get my "final" two fillings done. I go to pay for the work done today and the receptionist tells me I have just eight more fillings to go....WTF???!!!! :x My treatment plan clearly stated that I just needed 4 total. I asked her for another copy of my treatment plan and magically the other eight teeth appear on the paper that I need fillings for. The cavities I "supposedly" need are just small ones.

I've already scheduled my appointment for my spacers and fitting of my braces with the ortho, now I'm going to have to reschedule a later date.

So my question is: is it possible to still get fillings even after being braced or should I get everything done now over the next month (in which I don't want to do)?

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to get fillings done once you have braces on. Before my ortho would put mine on, I had to have a dental exam and have the dentist sign off saying I didn't have any cavities or other dental issues that required treatment. During that final exam, a cavity turned up and I had it filled.

I agree with Meryaten, seek a second opinion, especially since you original plan called for the filling of only 4 teeth. Granted he could be erring on the side of caution but why weren't these pointed out originally.
I would ask why and tell them your concerns about delaying your braces.

Well after having a little discussion with my dentist, I have discovered that the eight teeth with the exception of two(in which one will be a replaced filling) have slight imperfections in which he deemed worthy of fillings. I refuse to pay over $1000(he only does the white composite) for little fillings to be placed all over my mouth.

After I get the two fillings done needless to say I will be done with my dentist. Then I can get back on schedule for my braces. Conveniently for me there is a dentist office right next door to my ortho that I will consider.

Thanks to everyone who responded and gave advice!!!!!!

I don't think it matters if you wait until after. But only if the cavities aren't where you'll have the brackets placed etc.. For example, what if you got a cavity while you had braces???...Obviously you can wait, especially because they are small ones. Damn 8 cavities!! Make sure you brush ;)
