Can I Chew Through My Spacers?

#1 Post by signingsunflower »

I got my spacers in yesterday. Things have been fine until tonight. The pain is increasing and I am wanting to chew on EVERYTHING I can sink my teeth into. For some odd reason it hurts to chew, but also provides some relief. I'm a little concerned though. I'm afraid to chew on anything because I'm afraid I will chew through my spacers! Two of them are a bit torn because the ortho had a hard time putting them in. Is it possible to chew through them? I have the blue rubber kind....they stick up above my teeth a little bit.

Also, can anyone tell me....should I expect for my spacers to disappear somewhat as the teeth separate some? I noticed that one of the spacers has almost completely disappeared into the spaces in between the teeth.

My orthodontist didn't really explain a whole lot about this process so any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. I like to understand things I guess.

I'm going now to get the washcloth out of the freezer and gently knaw on that for a while. I feel like a puppy...chewin' on anything I can get my mouth on! HA!

I chewed through my spacers. Hey, I still had to eat and I am a horrible night grinder. So I think it happened to 3 of them. When they broke, they fell out, so I had to go back to the ortho and have them replaced, which hurt much more than the original placement because my teeth were so sore! They eventually put in metal spacers so I could not chew through them.

Well....thankfully it is now Tuesday! I haven't lost any, nor have I chewed through any! I am soooo glad. Just two more days! Maybe I could "accidentally" lose them on Thursday night? I get my braces Friday morning. :-) :-P
