I lost 15LBS! Anyone else in my position??
Hello everyone,
From spacers in September to today, I just realized that I'm missing 15 pounds. I'm not planning to look for them any time soon it's just really unexpected. I wasn't able to eat anything solid for weeks without excruiating pain and now that my teeth are moving my bite is totally off. To counter that, I've developed a love for soup and everything else solid I eat I cut into small pieces and chew really well.
So while this has got to be the worst idea for a diet ever , I think I'm happy with the unexpected results. Those of you who've lost weight, do you see it as a positive aspect of this looooooong process??

I've lost about 10 lbs. Extractions then spacers then brackets left me little to eat for awhile. I've managed to keep it off by not eating between meals (as much). Too much to deal with: take out rubber bands, eat, brush, put back in rubber bands----just not worth it for a cookie.
And no, I'm definitely not complaining.

My teeth were extremely sensitive at the beginning and then I had extractions about 3 weeks after being braced.....
I started loosing weight immediately, not sure how much but in the 10-15 lb. range. All my friends have been telling me I look great and they can tell I have lost weight but I am pretty small so losing so much weight, in my eyes, is just making me look more like I am 12 now ha.
My only concern is that once the braces come off, my newfound eating freedom will turn me into WHALE!

I'm going on day 3 since being braced and so far have eaten a total of 5 strawberries (which was painful!) and a tiny tiny sliver of chicken!
If I keep this up for the next 14 months I'm going to be down to nothing!

I gained weight, because I started eating a lot of soft mushy foods like potatoes, and beans and rice, and ice cream, and pumpkin pie, instead of my usual vegetables and fresh fruits, and salads.

Im the same, i lost weight. im a person who cannot affors to lose weight either. For many years I was trying to put on weight as I sat at a very scrawny 48kg.( Im about 163cm) I started cooking myself lunch when i was home and would eat a big meal when we arrived at some town on an overnight (at work) and managed to put on the weight the healthy way (without eating sugary or fatty foods)
After having 9 teeth pulled under a general back on Nov 12, I have dropped 4 kg. It was soup for the first three days and eventually I got into more solid foods including eating schnitzels etc and then the spacers went in. I wanted to be able to have a pre braces blowout today as the braces go on tomorrow but that wont be happening. Lets hope eventually I can start eating relatively normal again soon, so I can regain some lost weight....

For those of you who want to eat a bit better, there's always the option of things like yogurt, eggs, sugar-free apple/fruit sauces or other fruit purees, and soups such as corn, squash, or carrot (plus it's the right season in the US/Canada for the latter two). Roasted/steamed root vegetables seem possible as well and will add some variety to all the mashed potatoes.
My pants were a bit baggy during the first few weeks, but I'm also one of those "can't afford to lose extra weight" types, so I counter-acted this with those delicious mocha/vanilla protein drinks in the produce section (not Ensure -- too chalky) and lots of Greek yogurt (15% fat content )
If you have the equipment, you can also make plenty of fun things like fruit smoothies or ice cream. I have lost around 5 pounds. I am small anyway, so after the first six painful weeks, I started saying WHAT THE HECK and began drinking milkshakes, and high calorie foods. But I do see it as a positive side effect. If I lose 5 more lbs, I will be able to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes, which is great!!!!

I'm always excited to find out that, on this forum, I'm never alone. I could stand to lose a few pounds and I love food very much so I didn't mind too much when clothes started being a bit too baggy.
I do agree though that the biggest change came from the fact that I stopped snacking so much. The brushing and flossing seemed to be way too much work for a cookie.
I also think that because it's hard or takes too long doesn't mean we should stop eating. We should all slow down and take time to savor our food anyway! Happy eating!!

I wasn't too bad when just my top braces were on (I have a deep bite on the sides as well as overbite in front, so he put top ones on for a month and a half before the bottom went on) but since I got my bottom ones on last wednesday, I can't eat a thing! I've eaten mashed potatoes for three suppers over the past few days, and canned soup with really mushy noodles tonight.
Last night I made pasta with bottled sauce (there's too much beef in the homemade to get down without chewing) and I figured, why not throw some veggies in, they'll cook up a bit and be soft enough to chew. WRONG! I ate about half of the pasta whilst picking out the veggies (the best part!) and listening to my significant other whine about the pasta being overcooked.
One of the first meals I ate when I had the top ones on (they were a little tender for the first few days) was a homemade stew. I wasn't able to eat the stew beef, but the veggies and gravy were divine after not having anything but smoothies and yogurt for three days!
I think my big thing is texture. I can't do the whole, throwing everything through the blender thing. I'm going to be screwed when I get my surgery next year. So far, I've been looking around at some of the ideas on the prosthagnathic (sp?) forum, and most of them make my stomach lurch
