Thanks for the reply, Yolanda.

I go to the Ortho on Friday & have to make a decision by then, I am not sure what to do.
Thanks again for your input.

hi dml,

I had springs too. I was told by my ortho that the advantage with springs is that the pulling force is constant whereas elastics will loose their power when not changed. If you keep forgetting your elastics, springs is a good idea :)

Hi Danish, thanks for your reply,
It makes sence what you say about springs, makes the decision a bit easier. I am not sure how long I will have the springs for, how long did you have yours in for?

Hi again :)

I started out with elastics in March '08 and changed to springs in May '08 to close extraction gaps. By Nov '08 my springs were removed as gaps were pretty much closed.
I'm back in elastics and this time in funny configurations (rectangular etc) but now apparantly to stabilize the bite. I don't think springs are used for this....

Hi & thanks again for your reply, Danish.
I had a look at the pics you posted on 23May08 on your web page.
My elastic go from top front to lower back, I spoke to my ortho today, she told me that the springs work in a pushing manner, from the top back to the lower front, insted of pulling the top front teeth back, it pushes the lower front teeth forward. I am still not sure what to do.
Cheers for now

I was threatened with springs at the very outset of my treatment, but the ortho said if I was good about wearing elastics, I wouldn't need them. I was religious about wearing them, and I will finish one month sooner than expected as a result. They are a pain, but if you can teach yourself to use them consistently, they work, and you can avoid even more metal.

Hi PfectPitch, thanks for the reply,
I was realy good about wearing elastics & found them no problem until mid December, then I just kept on forgetting, maybe I just got to use to them. I am seeing the Ortho tomorrow & will explain whats happening & let her make the decision, she knows whats best for me. About more metal, I agree with you, I can do without that.
Cheers

You're right, it's up to the doc. Maybe she'll give you another chance before inflicting the springs!

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update, last Friday the ortho fitted some springs, it was decided that I should try them for the weekend, if I found them to be a problem she would remove them & I would go back to elastics, I found the springs to be a a real problem with speech, then came the flossing, that was not easy, but by Sunday, things were getting better. It is now over a week later, I still have the springs & have got use to them, I must say they do move teeth alot quicker than elastics, the springs will only be in for 6 weeks (hopefully)
Cheers
