Magster I'm so sorry to hear about your break up. After a 5 year relationship it must be tough to suddenly change your lifestyle. But honestly, keep your braces on. If anything, do it for yourself. You will thank yourself a thousand times over when you have completed your treatment and have amazing teeth.

And believe me, braces certainly do not push away the guys at all. Although I'm in a relationship, I went out on the weekend and had that many guys hit on me it was a joke! To be totally honest I completely forget I even have braces. I introduced myself to somebody yesterday, and it wasn't until I got home that I realised "hey I have braces and I wasn't even thinking about my braces when I introduced myself to her". In the first couple months of my treatment my braces were always on my mind, but now I barely ever think about them. To be totally honest I actually kind of like them and I'm going to miss them. They make me me, and I like that about them. In fact I was looking at photos of myself and said to myself "oh I look cute in braces, I'm going to miss them". That's totally embarrassing to admit, but it's what I thought!

Hope you are managing fine.

Best wishes,

I'm so sorry to hear what happened, but that shouldn't be a reason to get rid of your braces, IMHO... I really hope you stick with it. If anything, the final result of the braces should hopefully give you more confidence which would be a good thing I'd think. Please just give it a little time before making any rash decisions, and again, I'm very sorry about what happened.

Hi Maggie,

I am very to see that your boyfriend broke up with you. Please keep your braces on. You will be so happy that you did in the end. As Andromeda said, please don't make any rash decisions right now, as your emotions are running high.

I am married and yet I get hit on more now that I have braces. They give me more confidence because I know my teeth will be amazing. If a man turns you away because of braces, he is not someone you want to waste your time with. You deserve more than that.

It feels like the end of the world, but it will get easier. I was with a guy for 9 years when I called it quits. It was the best decision I ever made.

Hang in there Maggie, it will get easer.

Take Care

Just wanted to back the others up in saying that braces DO NOT impede the attentions you get from guys! In my 6 months of going out wearing them I havn't noticed any difference, in fact they do seem to like using it as an ice breaker, and i've had quite a few flattering comments and proffered phone numbers (not that i'm single or even looking, but it's nice to know that the old magic is still there even with braces) :D

PS-Think how great it will be to waft past your ex with perfect teeth and a handsome new hunk on your arm!

I think I was just upset this morning but I'll be fine :)

it really wasnt meant to be with the story itself I could write you guys a book

You girls are "cute" with braces so no worries. I thought I would be a monk during my braces sentence but I somehow ended up in an amazing relationship in the last month. Guess you never know how life is going to turn up huh? :)

I agree with the others. I went to my ortho consult before my fiancee and I ever started dating. He only knows about the first 4 months of me without braces. We have been together for almost 4 years now, and he is awesome. He is as anxious as I am to get them off, but he really doesn't know me any other way. He teases, but not to be mean, to keep my spirits up. And he is sympathetic to my pains. If your guy left, then "Good Riddance" to him, he wasn't good enough for you in the first place, and after the braces, you will be even better! So like you said, he will never get to see that smile now, his loss.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, especially at a time when we are more self concious and critical of our looks. But don't make any big decisions during this time. I've done that before, and ended up moving, changing jobs, chopping my hair off, bleaching it blonde, all kinds of crazy things (not all at the same time, and not all from breakups, but you get the point). I know that someday when you look back on this you will be so glad that you decided to continue your treatment :D And you'll probably have more confidence to go after someone who deserves to be with you.

Hi everyone again.. thank you for being so supportive and Calistamay - LOL is all Im going to say because I chopped my hair off 2 days ago lol one of those random decisions you make when your emotions are all over the place.

I'll keep the braces I mean I did have to put down a downpayment of 1 grand and already made one monthly payment for them, therefore it would be a waste of money.

even though I am very very self concious currently because sure plenty of guys have asked me to hang out when they found out I was single - word spreads quickly but I choose not too since when they used to hang out with me in the past I didnt have braces and Im just kind of EH they dont need to see?

Never though I would be like this but then again.. if they dont like MY braces then they would like me for the wrong reasons... but we shall see what happens...

Magster,
Sorry about the break-up. I'm glad to hear your sticking with the braces! We are very close in the time we got braced and I need someone to empathize with me during this process ;). As others have said, if one of the reasons your BF left you was because of your braces, he wasn't worth you to begin with. How shallow us men can be! If you want to get his goat, date a friend of his who HE thought liked you the most! LOL

Uvraise --- haha no Im not that evil I would never do that. Plus all his friends were idiots anyways.. I hope he didnt break up with me because of the braces - I really dont think that was the reasoning behind it... I am guessing there was another girl.

Who knows.
