Ok, I'm still only at the spacers and molar band stage (no brackets and wires yet) but I wanted to share this information so that you can avoid making this mistake.

While it is a GOOD idea to dry off the area where you want to place some wax, a washcloth with looped threads is NOT the best item to use for this purpose. It just might get one of those little looped threads caught on your bracket or molar band. And then, if that happens, you just might resort to asking your 9-year-old to try to untangle it. Once she grabs the cloth and yanks and you finally come down off the ceiling, you may then feel desperate enough to call your spouse. He may then proceed to laugh hysterically while picking up a very sharp pointy pair of scissors and approaching your very tender mouth. You may then just close your eyes and hope that his spasms of laughter calm down enough so that the scissors don't slip and cut your lip/gum/tongue.

I hope you find this message helpful (or at least humorous).

I am so sorry this happened to you, but it really brightened my day......I thought of my 9 year old son, and what he would have done in this situation, and I laughed and laughed.........hope the rest of your day goes better,

ps-having the braces is 1000% better than having the spacers in, hang in there!!!!!

Pebs- this did make me laugh (even though I felt bad for you). I bet you will soon be laughing about it if you aren't already!

It reminded me of an incident I had a few days after my braces were fitted... my toothbrush bristles somehow got stuck in one of my brackets while I was brushing in the ladies room at work.
My teeth were still sore and I was scared of breaking a bracket so I couldn't tug it out. I was just stood at the basin in a blind panic with my toothbrush hanging off one tooth and dangling out of my mouth and toothpaste dribbling down my chin when my boss walked in and looked at me like I was mental.

Your post totally reminded me of this!

I'm glad to hear that my story can brighten your day. Fortunately, I was able to see the humor in the situation, even as the washcloth dangled from my mouth. I'm just so glad I was at home and not at work. Oh my, electrokitty! Thank you for sharing your story - I would have just curled up in embarrassment.

Yeah, I had something similar to this happen to me. I also had the brackets and bands and no archwire yet. However, what happened to me was that on the day I got my extractions done, they packed me with textured gauze and when I went to change it, I realized it was all stuck and looped around my brackets. I don't know if I've ever felt more pathetic!
