Jaw/Mouth/Headache

#1 Post by jaylo »

So here I am starting my 3rd day with braces.
Everything has been ok except for a couple sore spots in my mouth, and with the use of wax, those have been tolerable.
My whole mouth and jaw and head are really hurting today though.
Just took some ibuprofen and just hoping that it helps cuz its really bothering me right now.
What to do?!

When I first got my braces I had the same problem. The only suggestions I can offer are to keep taking Ibuprofen and try to relax your jaw as much as you can. I know I was tensing my jaw up a lot at first because of the pain, but it will get better as time goes on. Also maybe try eating something cold or drinking something with ice in it to soothe the pain in your mouth. Just keep going, it will get better with time!
Time spent in braces: 16 months
Retainers: Top/bottom bonded and top/bottom Essix at night

Jaylo,
Try the warm salt water rinses for the mouth and tongue sores, it really hepls! I did it 2X a day for about 3 days and I was good to go. Go heavy on the salt. It tastes horrible but it does work. Over time, you should be able to wean yourself off of the wax, probably about 2-3weeks, your mouth will get used to the braces. Unfortunately the headaches are going to come and go like the tooth pain will, sorry!
