Hi All
Just wanted to vent out my pain after 2nd adjustment.......

I only had braces on uppers from last 2 months, so this time, first thing - ortho put on braces on lowers teeth. I couldn't bite down on my back teeth after, because my upper canines were resting on lower brackets. so he put blue bite pads in the lower molars. and i can barely chew after that.
worst part - my cheeks... lower side brackets are metal, they hurt so much on my cheeks, upper brackets weren't that bad. so using wax now... it seems so impossible without wax... does it get better? why are they positioned like that?
I still don't see much movement on uppers in last 2 months. even he never said anything about progress..... just pain & pain

Hi bstars - I know it hurts now, but it will get better! After I had my lowers put on, I hurt for about two weeks and then I was back to normal.

The pain will go away really quickly! don't worry about that.

As for the buildups, it is difficult getting used to eat with them, but believe it or not, you will be able to eat almost anything. Somehow we get used to everything. :D

The first few months is pretty tough, eventually you'll get used to the lower brackets and they won't bother you as much. As for the bite pads, I've had buildups on my molars for over 15 months now and it does get easier :) At first it's really strange trying to eat with those and having pain, but it will all settle down and you'll adjust to them.

Hey stars!!

Same exact thing happened to me (although I had my (ceramic) uppers for 9 months before having my (metal) lowers put on). I, too, had pain...not just discomfort, but PAIN, in lowers. But it DOES subside. For me, it didn't go away quickly, however, I'm sorry to say. As for using wax...I hate it. It's SUCH a pain. So...I use this little thing (and I've recommended it to several other people on this forum who've invested in it and seem to like it also). http://www.dentakit.com/cocoforbr.html* I LOVE it. It works so nicely!! :) And, believe me, the LAST THING you want is to have the pain in your teeth, plus the bulkiness of the brackets/inability to chew, AND mouth sores on top of it!!!

Good luck!! Also, check out my blog (in links below)...I documented my painful lowers saga. :)

*This is for the metal brackets. You have to buy the larger one for ceramic (if you feel you need it for those)...and there's a link for that on that same page.[/url]

to clarify a few things...

1) the 'little thing' I love is called a Comfort Cover
2) The site dentakit.com is owned/run by the moderator/owner of this website and forum :)
3) my blog can be found by clicking the "WWW" button at the VEEEERRY bottom of my posts. :)

Thankyou everyone for your replies. Its so helpful hearing your experience.
For the update, toothache is mild now, i can bear this much. getting better at chewing also with bite pads/buildups... whatever that blue thing is called.
Only problem left is with my cheeks. I am keeping wax on 24hrs, just take it out while eating. Comfort Cover looks like a good option, but I am cofused which ones to go for....
I have 6 ceramics and rest metal on top as well as bottom. Should I buy comfort covers for metal or ceramics? Also my lower ceramic brackets are smaller than the ones on top.
Can I eat with Comfort Covers on?
