Resentment toward someone else for their bad dental hygenie

#1 Post by amandajane »

I've come across lots of people that would blame me rather than fix their problems of dental care. For example, brushing, flossing, orthodontics, dental cleanings.

I am not the target of persons not wanting to care for themselves.

Stop blaming and do things the right way.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but we have people coming in our clinic all the time saying things like: "You can clean my teeth all you want I'm still not going ot brush." They say these things to our hygienists! Then why come in for a cleaning!?! And they get mad that they only have 5 teeth in their head...

Not me, just in general. Instead of putting an excuse to it, do the right thing. That person or persons has to take initiative for their own dental health. Am I correct?

Well, I think that a lot of people don't take their dental hygiene/health seriously. They just take their teeth for granted and figure that if anything goes wrong the dentist can fix it. It isn't until they realize that something can't be fixed....or that fixing it will cost a LOT of money that they wake up and realize that it could have been avoided simply with better daily care.

Until you actually study the anatomy of teeth, you don't realize that they are organic structures, influenced by their environment, capable of movement, and connected to the rest of your body. For instance, the recent studies that bacteria from periodontal disease could contribute to heart problems.

I myself was a very lazy brusher and flosser before I got braces. I know more about teeth now than the average person, and I'm ashamed of the careless manner in which I treated them previously. But when I was younger my teeth were crooked and flossing was a major pain. Braces was probably the best thing I ever did for my teeth in many ways because now I would never dream of not brushing and flossing.

Anyway, I think it all boils down to this: a large percentage of the population doesn't think that teeth are very important.....perhaps until they are facing expensive and painful restoration procedures or dentures.
