Update on my rogue tooth. Pics, Two Months In.

#1 Post by gregpeckfan »

I think it's improving. I actually had a crying meltdown over it two nights ago as I was convinced my teeth were getting worse. Normally I'm really positive. Anyway, here are the shots of my upper arch and it *is* getting better I think. Also lower shots of my full smile progress.

Apologies if it is bad etiquette to post these in two areas, but I mostly check here.

I would say it's getting better. When do you expect to get a bracket put on that drifty upper tooth? I think I was at least a few months in before my lower rogue tooth was bracketed and it probably wasn't as far a space because the lower teeth are a little smaller.

And they may get worse, move in the opposite direction they were originally leaning in, etc. As my ortho told me a few days ago, try not to micromanage and take a long view. Besides, once all of the dramatic movement is over, it's usually just at least year of unexciting bite correction. :)

Wow your teeth moved so much! I have been doing the same thing, taking a million pictures everyday and seeing if they moved. They all looked the same to me until I compared the first time I got them and now. They look like they are improving! I got the same extractions too, I can't wait for them to close up.

I definitely see improvement in your teeth - I know how you feel though, I have 2 rouge canines that need to be moved into the arch. Most days I am positive, then one day will creep up here and there where I think I must have some sort of oddball teeth that will never move to where they should be haha! One of my rouge teeth looks like it's trying to move right behind one of the teeth next to it and that has made me nervous, but I try not to think about it too much. I do know that eventually they will be sorted out, I just can't wait for that day! Once our rouge teeth get bracketed they will move very quickly, that's what I have gathered from reading others' similar stories.

Hang in there, I'm trying to as well

Lenoreo - they are bracketing the rogue tooth (supposedly) on the 28th when I go for the next adjustment. But my "obsession du jour" is whether there will be enough space. I wonder: Do they bracket a rogue tooth if it still has to push its way in? Or do they only bracket it if there is a wide-open plenty of space?

The picture on 7/5, that was about the worst. That tooth felt like it was in the middle of my palette!

I know what you mean. I thought my front lower incisor was going to be pushed out of my mouth when my other teeth started falling in line. There was definitely some jostling going on in there and I was really concerned about my lower teeth for the first few months.

Since yours is pretty far back, maybe they'll bracket it and lasso the bracket with an elastic or wire tie before they fully engage the bracket with a wire?

I have this picture that was taken right after my last tooth was bracketed here:

I think the big bend in the wire helped the neighboring teeth move outta the way, so maybe the same thing will happen with yours. About a day after the bracket went on, the canine next to it actually made a popping noise and moved about a mm over. :D

It was pretty weird, to say the least, but it seemed to help make space.

Rogue tooth

#7 Post by virgoan »

Hey there ..

I'm replying quite late to your original post and perhaps you've already gotten that rogue tooth in the wire, but I was going to share what happened to me. I had a wayward lateral incisor that was pushed back to make room for a canine that hadn't come all the way down, and I wasn't sure how it would play out either. I also felt like that tooth was being pushed into my palate, that sensation is awful. I understand 200%!

Anyway, once the canine had come down, my ortho placed a wire spring across the space where the incisor needed to be to make room. It was kind of uncomfortable for a while but I got used to it. The process of making room took a couple months. I wish I had pictures to make this clearer but I'd been really reluctant to document the earlier phases of my treatment.

I can't tell you how thrilled I was when she included that tooth in that archwire. I'm not even exaggerating when I say it almost immediately leapt into position.

It's been a few months since that tooth was integrated, and while it's not 100% level with the rest of the top teeth (it feels like it's slightly lower overall), it's very much in line otherwise.

Hope this helps!

I too had a rogue tooth on the bottom. The ortho put a coil spring between my canine and incisor for 8 weeks, which created a huge space (which was nicely hidden by the coil spring). Last adjustment she removed the coil spring and finally hooked up the rogue tooth to the arch wire. The rogue tooth moved into place within 24 hours, with hardly any pain.
