I have had my braces for almost a month now, and of course this happened when i first got them, but I kept my silicon wax on the offending areas and rinsed with warm salt water and it healed up and has been fine for weeks. Until last week, I felt that the same thing was tearing up my cheek (just the left one this time) so, I waxed it all up and started the salt water again. However, it seems as though it just keeps getting WORSE. It feels like a little hole in the inside of my cheek and I can't even go without wax for 1 minute. Even with the wax on the area, it still get irritated... just when I open my mouth too wide (like to yawn) it feels like my cheek is just tearing more. I have been just eating & sleeping (of course I change it out a few times a day) with my wax still on, and chewing with the other side but even doing that is extremely painful (so of course I am so hungry after a few days of this). The salt water soothes it for a little bit right after I rinse, but it doesn't seem like it is even beginning to heal up. It even hurts to brush my teeth as the other side of my toothbrush hits my cheek on that side. The right side is perfectly fine!
Has anyone encountered this situation before, or know of ANYTHING that could help it heal up, even just the slightest bit, I will try ANYTHING at this point, I am super desperate!!! I have been using Campho-phenique also, it doesn't do anything but numb the pain for a minute or 2.
Ps. Sorry for the novel... lol

Try Canker Cover. You should be able to buy it in the dental section of any drug store.
It is basically a little white disk about the size of an asprin. You put it on the sore, and hold it there for about 30 seconds. It adheres to the sore, and forms a protective bandage that lasts about 6 - 8 hours.
The only downside (other than the price) is that they can make it hard to talk, depending upon where the sore it. I tend to use them at night, unless the sore is really bad.
I find that they work really well.

WOW!
So, the same night I went to CVS Pharmacy and I didn't find Canker Cover, but I did find the same thing in the Orajel brand and I liked it. It numbed it up really good and kept it covered so it could start healing. I used it when I went to bed, and then a few times the following day and I could tell it was starting to get smaller and didn't hurt hardly at all. It doesn't have the best taste, but its not unbearable, I mean I have definitely tasted worse things. The only thing I didn't like is it seems like ALOT, like if the tablet were just a bit smaller, I think I would like it better, but I think that just had to do with my canker sore being right in the center of my cheek and then my braces would rub on the tablet when I tried to close my mouth and once it turned to gel it was all over my tongue. But I will use it again if I get another sore, because I think that it really did start the healing process and was able to protect it from constantly rubbing on my braces and getting worse!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with me!!!

This is my 2nd go around in braces but issues still the same with sharp wires.
I have a medical condition called Sjogren's where my mouth is dry and with braces it's awful, makes my lips dry and cracked and my mouth sometimes feels like I have thrush. The sharp wires add to the problem.
I rinse with aloe vera gel from the health food store (it's awful) but it soothes. At night I put tea tree oil on a soft cloth or cotton ball and rub it around in my mouth and use another one on my tongue (please do not use the same one used on the tongue). Tea tree oil is an astringent and will kill any yeast in the mouth or on the tongue. It has an awful taste as well. From time to time I also make up a mouth rinse of a couple drops of tea tree oil and water and swish in my mouth to help kill off bacteria that might be caught under my brackets, etc. because it is so difficult to floss braces properly.
There is no science to this, just my personal regiment I've used thru both sets of my braces the last ten years and it's worked well for me. I'm 57 and still have all my teeth.
Blessings!
