Question about different archwires...

#1 Post by amb »

Hi all, just had my second adjustment yesterday – moved up from light circular wires to some really heavy rectangular wires! – this is more painfull than when I first got my braces on!

I was wondering… Why a rectangular wire over circular? What different functions/properties do they have?

I got rectanguars at my first adjustment, OD said it was to start pulling my front teeth in, as I have a significant overjet. the tech said it was not to close the gaps, but to pull the teeth into alignment.

I am hoping he will be ready to close the gaps at the next appt--I think I am still in the "looks worse before it gets better stage"

good luck!
