Article: Redheads feel more pain, don't numb easily
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
Mmm... suppose on some levels this article makes sense. I experienced alot of pain at the dentist as a child and did have a huge amount of anxiety about dental treatment until this year. Judging from the other posts on this board however, I don't think that my pain levels would be any different from anyone elses. Seem to be quite normal. Definately interesting though.

I'm a natural redhead and find that when getting a cavity filled, my dentist needs to give me more local anesthetic then she does to her other patients. And even though Novocaine is swabbed on my gums prior to getting the injection of local--I still feel it and it still really hurts.
I've been lucky when getting teeth pulled. I've never felt pain per se, but then again, they use so much local the entire mouth is numb, not just one area.
I've read an article similar to this before, specifically about redheads being harder to put under general anesthesia. I just had my appendix removed last November (no problems) and I wish I had the wherewithal to have asked my anesthesiologist what his personal experiences had been.
