I have been in braces for 5 months and I will be having surgery down the roa - which means that my underbite looks worse with time (right now I look like an ape..). I am applying to jobs after I got laid off from my last company and had some "time off". So far I have had 7 interviews in the past month and a half. Most of the jobs I interviewed for were for client-facing positions but a few were not... I notice at most of the interviews they will look at my teeth but then shy away when I meet their eye..
Anyway, out of the 7, no job offers...
I am starting to worry that the braces or my underbite or both are putting people off...
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 25 and female.. It's really getting to me.. I need a job cuz I need to pay my bills =/
Can't get a job because I have braces??? =(

While appearance is something important with working face-to-face, I don't thinka company would not hire you simply because of your braces. A lot of companies are feeling the heat from the ecomonic situation - have you got much experience? I've been told that I have TOO MUCH experience at some interviews, and not enough at others. Companies don't want to take a chance on either having someone who does not have enough experience to handle a job, or someone who has too many years of experience - it's sad to say but the automatic assumption is that a person develops bad habits after that long a time.
I will be facing a layoff in a couple of weeks, but I'm going to take some time off I think before I look for a new job. Keep at it, there's something out there for you!
