I live far from my orthodontist and transfering is not an option.
At the beginning of my treatment, all of my canines resembled fangs.
Today, my orthodontist hooked onto the last remaining fang. To do this he simply ran my archwire up to the canine and back to the regular teeth. This is fine and my tooth is already moving, but i have a small problem - the since my tooth is moving down there is excess wire behind my wisdom teeth, poking my mouth and creating sores.
Revisiting my orthodontist in a few days to get this wire clipped is not an option because I am going off to school 500 miles away.
What can I do to prevent the poking?
I have tried wax but the wire is so far back in my mouth that I can barely reach it, much less ensure the space is dry enough for the wax to stick.
My friends have suggested cutting it myself when it gets long enough or attempting to file it down. I don't particularly trust either of these methods and even if I did it would be hard to reach back there.
Should I attempt to clip the wire? Does anyone else have experience with this?
I have experienced the same thing, especially at the early part of my treatment. I asked my ortho about it and he said I could either bend it inward with a pencil eraser or try to clip it. If it is too far back, you may just need to try and bend it in a way that will be less irritating.
I had this happen and it was so annoying!! I found that sometimes a big lump of wax helped, but better was when I could bend the wire into a better position. Not ideal, but helps between appointments
