Hello!
My ortho informed me that he will put lower braces on me with elastics for a couple of months to fix my bite.
I would like to ask if they hurt and how much?
Ι am so scared..should i be prepared for how much pain?
Ιt is the same as the first time in braces?
Τhanks!

I got my tops and bottoms on the same time. My lower jaw, probably was a bit more sore than my upper, but yes, I would expect similar discomfort as when you got your uppers installed. I also wear elastics and I found them to be even more uncomfortable to get used to then just the brackets. We all react differently, but wanted to share my experience so you might have some expectation.

I have only been wearing my Class II elastics for four days and based on the experience so far they are quite painful. They will first put bands with hooks on your molars and a hooks on your new archwire. You have to use lot of wax or the hooks will shred your cheeks. The elastics make my lower jaw and face ache. I was in spacers before being braced so I was already in a lot of discomfort and the elastics went to work on an alreday sore mouth. Hopefully you will not need spacers first. In any case I took lots of Naprosen and have been using Ambien to sleep. The elastics pain keeps me awake at night. Hope you have better luck.

I've been wearing elastics for a few months already, and I can say they are moderatel painful at the beginning. The first days you will definitely feel some pain, then you'll get used. As for the bottom braces, I can't recall -I got both arches at the same time.
