Does anyone else have 6month smile braces?

#1 Post by Unlikejoey »

Hi, i've had my 6month smile braces now for 4 weeks and was just wondering if anyone else has them and what they think of them so far? I've had a fair bit of movement on one side already and staining hasnt been too much of an issue. It would just be nice to know that there are fellow 6month smilers out there!!!

Can I also just say how brilliant this forum is. I have found it very useful in making the decision to get braces, and also in the weeks after getting braced.

I have have 6 month smile braces.

So far I am ok with them. I just think the brackets are huge compared with metal brackets.
I've had them for 7 weeks now and have to go infor adjustment every other week (we are trying to make it in 4 months).

I think they are a good choice for minow adjustments.

I saw some movement after 2 weeks and was really happy to see it work, to see it is all worth it.

Thats good that you get the wire changed every 2 weeks. I'm supposed to go every 4 weeks but the office is busy so there are 5 weeks between getting them on and the first adjustment and then 6 weeks until the next appointment which im not too happy about. The dentist origionally estimated 5 months for me so now i feel as though that has added an extra month on :(

I wish they offer 6 months braces in Asia but unfortunately not, else I think my case will be minor enough to end treatment in 6 months!

How envious am I ~

I'm not quite sure how to add the picture but i'll give it a try. This is a picture of my teeth the day I got them on.

I'm very aware of them being there but it took some people a while to notice them. I will take some photos of the movement and post them soon.

Have you experienced problems with the white coated wire getting chipped?

The wire was chipped slightly when it was put on but apart from that I havent experienced any more chipping. I was a little annoyed that the dentist chipped it but hopefully that wont happen again. I'm getting it changed on Wednesday so i'll let you know if I get an unchipped wire!

That is one of the key disadvantages of the coated archwires. They tend to chip quite a bit. Also they can have increased friction which can slow things down a bit -- not a ton but a bit.

I dont find the chipping noticable really and the braces are only going to be on for 5 months anyway so i'm not too concerned about the wire slowing things down. Of course I can see this being a disadvantage if the braces were to be on for several years.

Different cases will chip the wire more - the more bent the wire is the more likely it is to chip. The wires are changed most every month any way so if the chipping is minor no big deal. Sometimes they can chip pretty badly though. I am glad yours is not.

Yeah, thanks. I guess i'm pretty lucky! The wire wasnt too bent to start with. Knowing my luck the next wire will chip now!

Oh and this photo was taken after just 5 days and you can see that the little space between the front teeth has closed already. I'll try to get some clear photos of my teeth now after almost 5 weeks. Does anyone know how to get clear photos of your teeth? Its very hit or miss for me.

6 month smile braces

#14 Post by smilegirl18 »

Hi

I've had my 6 months smile braces for nearly 7 weeks now and so far I'm pretty pleased with them. They do stain quite easily with spicy food and things like tomato soup, so I'm trying to avoid these sorts of food until the week before my adjustment. Overall though, apart from being conscious of them myself, they really aren't that noticable to other people at normal talking distance. :)
I'm amazed how quickly my teeth seem to be moving into place. I had my first adjustment last week - it felt very wierd when the wire was removed I can tell you! Also I'll be real glad when my bite plates are removed as they are really starting to annoy me and they're still making eating difficult as my back teeth don't meet.

I had my first adjustment 2 days ago and my dentist told me that I could be dont in 4 months instead of 5 :) I did well at not staining them until the night before my appointment when I ate curry. I wouldnt have done it if the elastic parts weren't getting changed the next day! I noticed a lot of movement in the first 5 weeks, but the dentist has told me that now I have a stronger wire on I will notice movement a lot faster.
