Question about first archwire

Hi, I'm new, just got braced on 9-14-09. Top only, for now, with ceramics on the front 6, metal on the next four, bands on the second to last molars (sorry, I know I should know the proper names!).
My sister, who is a dental assistant and has had braces as an adult, just a couple years ago, says that my first archwire is a very thin one. But still, should I be expecting any movement at all? It seems like it's going to be a waste of 8 weeks (till my first adjustment).
Thanks for any info!

You are not wasting your time. Light forces move teeth faster than haevy forces and are more comfortable. The smaller first wire is often to set the stage for faster movement with the next wires.

It's not a waste of time  .

Like you, my first adjustment was at 8 weeks (I know it feels like forever!). The thin little wire did quite a lot of work in that short time opening up tiny gaps and starting a lateral incisor on it's march forward.

also trust me if it was a waste of time docs wouldnt use it either :)
We want the teeth to move just as much as you do.

Wow, thanks for all the replies and encouragement! I do feel that there is a bit more space between some of my teeth (I have *very* tight teeth!). So I guess I just need to be patient!
