Hi everyone I have been completely obsessed with this site since I’ve found it about two months ago. I don’t have braces yet but I’m scheduled to get them on December 14. I could’ve gotten them sooner but my ortho is out for the month of November to have her baby, so I’ll be her first patient when she gets back. I had so many questions but after reading around this site, I’ve gotten a lot of my answers. (but trust me I have plenty more) I am planning to get regular wire braces on top and bottom. My treatment time is 24 months. I am so anxious. I am a 34 year old mother of 3 and my children are very supportive. I love reading members stories and following their treatments. This site really rocks. I look forward to talking with everyone and sharing my experience.

Hi Boohill,
Welcome to AW and congrats on taking the plunge. I was, like you, so happy when I found this site, and it has helped me incredibly throughout my treatment so far. If you have the time, I would also recommend to make the effort tomake a thread on your treatment. It's really nice to write and look back on your treatment so far as you go along.
May you have the best of luck December 14th.

Hi Petitcanard. Thanx for the welcome. When is your brace date and what type of braces are you planning to get? I am really looking for some support. I dont have any adults to discuss my excitement with.

Im sure I will find all of the support I need here.

Sorry if this sound rude, but why are people still getting the fixed 24 month braces?
Why aren't more people using the Inman Aligner?
I've just got mine fitted for the lower and it's so easy. 6 months and I'll have bottom and top done (hopefully to a good standard!).
Just curious.
Aren't the fixed more expensive as well?

Chezdon, not all cases are that simple.

Hi Chedon
Well from what Ive read, the device is designed for adults who have had braces before and need some realignment, or who only have a minor misalignment problem. They can only achieve a limited range of movement. If your teeth are misaligned and require moving back into position then this brace will only perform a limited movement. Neither of the two orthos that I have seen recommended this treatment for me. I don’t have a problem wearing traditional braces. Im am so proud to be able to straighten my teeth and I plan to wear them proudly. But thanks for the comment. Ive researched Inman Aligners a little and I don’t think they are for me.

Hey Donna
I am absolutely busting over here. I cant think about anything else. When I speak to people, I look directly at their teeth. My daughter asked my how many times am I gonna look at teeth online. I cant help it. I am amazed at some peoples progress and hope that I will progress well too. Im trying to learn all of the do’s and don’ts beforehand and hope to learn from other peoples experiences.
How are you doing so far with your braces? I would love to check out your story.

Hi Boohill,
My bracedate is this Thurs, Nov 5. EEP! I'm 37 & doing full metal uppers & lowers, treatment time around 24 mo as well - so we're almost brace-twins haha.
I have one friend in braces right now, but she lives in another town so I haven't any adults nearby to share the experience with. This site will hopefully fill in the support void for us!!
Congrats again, and I'll try to start a formal post at the end of the week to whine about the first few days

I just scheduled another consultation for Thursday evening. I want to make sure I’m making the right decision and that all of my options are covered.
How long before I can get a ticker?
2 days...

Hi
I'm getting my brace in 2 days ( 6 month smile)... I keep going from excited to nervous to wanting to cry to excited again. I'm a teacher and am so worried about going into school the next day - worried about if my mouth will be sore and how this will affect my first day in work... really wish i had booked it off... but hey, straight in at the deep end!
I just wondered, should i expect my teeth to ache after it has been fitted? Will I be able to eat normally? Will my speech be affected do you reckon??
Questions questions...I'm anxious too! eeek!
thank you

Hi Boohill,
Well, it certainly sounds like you're doing your due diligence with your braces! Good for you. It sounds like you are fully prepared for this.
As for me...I did pitifully little research prior to getting mine done. I just knew I wanted nicer teeth, and went with the first (and only) ortho I saw. I wanted braces for a while but never had the guts until we moved to Singapore at the beginning of the year. Orthodontic work is cheaper here than in the US or Canada. And since I don't really know anyone here, I get to "hide" out for a bit.
I have ceramic Innovation-C braces, and my ortho's original estimate is 12-18 months. Hope to have them off as quickly as possible, of course.... These brackets are tearing up my mouth, so I'm hating life at the moment. Hopefully it will get better...
Letigrelady...I think everyone has a different experience right after getting braces on. Some have a lot of pain, some don't. Some can eat anything right away, some are on soft food for a few days. I couldn't chew food for a few days but now I can eat pretty much anything. Good luck with your braces! I'm so jealous you'll be done in 6 months!
