wires cutting into mouth...any tips welcomed!
I have been braced for a few days now - i have 6 month smile braces and the plastic brackets seem to stick out so far - plus my teeth are wonky which i guess doesnt help - I've just about managed to get my wax on 3 brackets this evening - hooray! The blobs never seem to want to stay on the brackets!
Any advice for what i could use to cover the wire for a bit of temporary relief?
Also saltwater rinsing seems to be helping.
And thank goodness for this forum, it is such a great thing!

I've also been braced for only a few days, and have been fighting with the wax as well - it's not that user-friendly!! LOL I discovered that trying to dry as much as I can with kleenex or such, and applying more wax than I figure I need seems to work better - the bigger the blob, the better it sticks. Other than that, I'm going through the same thing and don't have much to offer other than "me too!"!!

Wax
All I can say is stick with the orthodontic wax. After a while, your lip and cheeks will get tougher. I know it's tougher, but stick with it and in the end it'll all be worth it!

I've had my braces on for 6 months now and have had to go in a couple of times to get the wire clipped. This last time I went in, the assistant placed a 'stopper' on either side of my front bracket and said it would prevent the wire from sliding. It's been working so far! Stick it out with the wax as long as you can and it will get better!

It heals amazingly quickly, I had my cheeks ripped to shreds and oozing.
I got my braces on a saturday, and by the next saturday my cheeks were healed and I've never had a problem since.
It was amazing how quickly it healed.
So, I don't have much advice-other than to make sure your bracket is dry before applying wax- but it does heal up very quickly.

I am totally with you....I am on Day 3 and I am in bad shape with so many sores in my mouth. It seems to be mainly from the hooks on the upper brackets. I have wax covering every single bracket on the top now. Its not just one or two places that hurt, its everywhere!!!
What is really scaring me now is reading DaveInTexas post, everyone has been telling me it will be like this in the beginning but it will get better, but you are still feeling like this after 6 months???? If it is like this 6 months from now I will go insane! Seriously, I can't deal with this long term. These things will come off if I don't stop having sores like this.

Because I had extractions, I had a problem with the wire cutting into my cheek on a place where I couldn't put any wax because there was no tooth and hence - no bracket to put the wax on! I ended up sleeping with gauze on the inside of my cheek for a couple of nights, which really helped because at least it gave my cheeks the chance to heal. I rarely use wax and I haven't had a problem since! Maybe try that in addition to using whatever wax you can manage to stick on there?
Good luck!

i am on day 6 of my braces, and today is the first day i am not in miserable pain! wax is a pain, but the more you use, the better it will stay on. i also have found that just drinking a lot of water seems to make my mouth feel a little bit better. i also have used ambusol on the areas in my mouth that hurt. good luck!

In order for me to get the wax to stay on, I have to suck and slurp to make sure there's as little moisture around the brackets or on the tooth as possible. Every now and then I use a Q-tip to dry around the area that I need to wax. That usually does the trick. I've been braced just a little over a year, and honestly, after the first few weeks, you may not have much need for the wax. I have used it once since the initial two weeks or so. As said before, your mouth does kinda get tougher. Hope this helps!
