Gum Health

#1 Post by Laura1985 »

Hello :) I've always had good gum health and always receive compliments from my orthodontist on how healthy my gums look. And I certainly understand the importance of flossing and maintaining a daily teeth/gum cleaning routine. However, in the past week my gums have become more sensitive. Mainly around my front bottom two teeth. The gums in that area are slightly discolored and white, and there is a small white dot or two. That same area of the gum is looser and I can pull it away from the teeth. I'm assuming this just means I need to step up my cleaning routine and floss and waterpik extra. I've also started to use mouthwash. I'm guessing it's a little bit of gum disease? The rest of my gums are normal colored and seem fine. Anyone else had experience with something similar? I am due for an adjustment next week so I can get a professional opinion at that point- but I always welcome the advice of this board! :)

Yes you need to clean them better and floss! That's the first sign of gum disease.

I have the same problem but in my back top teeth. My teeth are so little that it is hard to clean in between the bracket and the gum. Actually I didn't even think about it until they started getting red and swollen. Now it's a b to try to floss there. They're a lot better now.

It does seem the gums around my two top front teeth are a little weird now though. It seems like they go up farther now and they kind of hurt when I floss. Maybe I floss there too much. I don't know. Hopefully it's nothing serious. But if your gum is actually coming away from the tooth, that's a sign of gum disease.
