Colours for your first time

#1 Post by b »

Getting my braces on next friday. I will post pics soon, but I was wondering.. what colours did people get for the first time, what made you feel most comfortable? I had a dream I got pink and I liked it, but now picturing myself with pink sounds weird. I think I should probably just go with basic black. I'm going to feel extremely self concious in the next little bit with my staff christmas parties coming up, and the holidays..

I have metal braces and I have been going with "tooth colored" the last few times--not clear, but not really white either....one tech told me they are the least conspicuous in her opinion, and so far I like them. I went with basic silver the first time, and I thought they made the brackets look huge (silver ligs over the silver bracket!) The tooth color do stain a bit, I tend not to love them after 4 weeks, but if I am going 2 weeks later for an adjustment, I just live with it. I also had a pink/lavender color once, which were bright when they first went on , but then faded to not be very noticable which I liked as well!

Blah, you will be so distracted by your brand-new face metal and all the discomfort the first week brings that you won't care.

I always get them to surprise me every time I get my ligs changed (every 2 weeks) and I usually forget what colour I have within a day or two, even though I see them every time I brush my teeth!

Have fun with it, try every colour, why not???

The only colour I can actually say I don't particularly like is green, which I just got yesterday, but I really don't care enough to even ask him not to use green again.

Honestly, it's such a minor detail, you might as well have fun with it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my best friend had braces for 2.5 years.
I can't remember for the life of me if she ever had coloured elastics or not.

She laughed at me when I asked her about "discreet" colours and she laughed at me and said that braces aren't "discreet" and that I'll look a lot cooler if I wear them with pride and confidence than if I try to be "discreet."

I say GO FOR PINK!

fun topic! i get to change my elastics on wed! :-)

i'm newly, almost-6 wks braced and i picked baby blue. i figured that any staining i had from coffee would play off the blue color and make it not seem so bad.

everyone kept telling me my ceramics would stain badly but they've been pretty white and my teeth haven't stained in these 6 wks.

on wed, i might go for holiday colors though, still unsure. The assistant showed me like 30 different colors the first time, its hard to decide in a few seconds.

I was just braced 8 days ago, all metals, and thought what the heck!! Might as well show these puppies off, god knows I paid enough for them

So I chose kind of a medium pink, check out the picks in my post. I love it!! And so does everyone else, my husband especially (?!) LOL. Colors do make the braces more fun (to me anyway) so I'll likely try a few different ones (I'm going to do rainbow for my last adjustment before they come off!) but I really love this pink :)

Good luck!!!

I will be getting my braces in less than a month (metal tops and bottoms) and a I think I want light pink , light blue or lavender ligs for the first time. I will probably change my mind 100 times before the day comes. I have to see how many choices I will have at the office. I plan to have fun with my braces . I might let my 5 year old daughter pick my color if she doesn't get too crazy. Im going to take her with me when I get them put on. So any questions about braces will be able to answered by my ortho or assistant. Plus she will understand a little better if she goes with me, than to see me come home all metal mouthed.

I have found that colour makes me feel a lot better. You can't hide the braces any way, so I think you should go wild with the colour. I am a little annoyed that my ortho doesn't have a wide variety.

With the holiday parties coming up, how cool would your sparkling smile be if it were festively decorated!! :D

So far, the only thing that didn't work for me was red. I looked like my mouth was bleeding for three weeks and while I forgot what colour I had until I was brushing my teeth, I was definitely stared at.

Have some fun with it!

I have self-litigating ceramics on top and will be getting metal on the bottom, but I think those will also be SL. I'm kind of jealous of you people and your fun colors! Maybe I will get colored powerchains? XD

One of my favorites is a metallic purple....but the wildest I had was neon pink and yellow alternating...that was quite fun
