A little back story on where I'm at. I got In-ovation-C braces upper braces on 5/13/09. Have not had any problems with them, after my first 2 adjustments I never noticed any change, other than one tooth turning a little, my bite stayed the same.

I finally was able to get my lower braces on 11/30/09. I have an overbite so they placed the bite turbos on my top 2 front teeth. (I believe he said it was type 2 or something like that?) Anyway, I've read several posts about bite turbos but I must have skipped over some because I didn't see the answers I was looking for and it looks like everything under the sun regarding braces is discussed here!

The bite turbos have given me a lisp, will this go away? I do a lot of public speaking with my job so this has made me really self conscious about how I'm talking now. I'm willing to do anything to get rid of it.. I'm really hoping it doesn't last the whole time I have them!

Also, now that I basically have no bite, (only the turbos touching the front 2 bottom teeth) I'm having a hard time eating. Does this last for a long time? I've resorted to smoothies and soup but it's just not filling me up. I asked for an estimate on how long I would have to wear them but all the assistant told me was whenever my bite starts to correct itself but that was pretty much of no help to me. I was disappointed that I didn't get to ask the ortho, he was in and out in a hurry, not waiting for my questions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The lisp will go away for the most part. I have bite turbos also and after around three weeks my lisp is for the most part gone. I still hear it but my wife say that she does not. The eating will come after you get used to chewing you food a little differently. I have no problem chewing my food now, although trying to bite a piece off of some things is a little challenging. You will be surprised at how fast your teeth actually move, my bottom teeth don't actually hit the turbos anymore, but I have some other teeth hitting that are still peventing my back teeth from closing. Hi there! I can totally relate, my turbos went on when I was braced a month ago, and I was horrified at the "lithp" - I also must speak a lot with my job. It's so embarrassing, but after a month it's become less noticeable. I still hear it, but I don't get hassled near as much and I think it's only really certain words now that give me grief. So take heart! It gets better as your tongue finds new places to try to make "s" and "th" sounds...

I continue to wrestle with the eating thing as well. I've managed to scarf down a number of things (out of desperation) lately - I've been on the road far too much, but have to confess nothing gets much "chewing" before going down! lol. I've been sticking to softer foods, like fish and curries with rice. Pasta and chilli are also good, and all of the above I just cut the food as small as I can and then it gets mushed about a bit by my non-touching teeth before it goes down. Hard food is still out of the question, but I've managed to bite into a bun (very entertaining)... so maybe it will get easier as time goes on! So I think as long as the veggies & meat etc are cooked soft and you cut it up really small, you'll manage ok..

Re timeline, my ortho said 3 - 4 months; I imagine it depends on how quickly your teeth move & the bite opens up.

You're definitely not alone and it's not much fun... but here's hoping our teeth move quickly!!

I just got mine on yesterday after I went in for adjustment; it was a total surprise I wasn't expecting anything new in my mouth other than usual ligatures or arc wires, then they put in "turbos" on the back of my two front teeth. I can't bite down completely either which makes chewing a nightmare.... VERY hard to eat.

I think I have it the worst though, I also have an an expander!

oh my Vlsh! I had an expander in the past and just recently got bite turbos. I feel for you... both are not very comfortable. At least the bite turbos seem to help pretty quickly. I've had mine on for about a week and a half and my back teeth are already starting to touch. thank goodness cause eating was really challenging.

Yah the bite turbos totally suck. In fact you or others may have noticed after you get braces, any kind of bite on the front teeth HURT...ouch. So it is like a doube wammy blah. Although two days after I got my braces on my teeth feel numb / itchy!!!! So biting on that turbo kinda feels like scratching them, yah I am weird haha.

Just remember they help the teeth move faster and that usually helps.

First week is the roughest usually.

i have a question for you.. i have build-ups (don't know what type, but they look like cement ) maybe u can look at my last posted pictures...anyway, on the next adjustment they need to come off. BUT HOW? they are hard as rock, how will they be removed?

ther are removed with the dental handpice the same way initial sculpting of white fillings are done. It is probably just made out of white filling material. takes just a few minutes.
