Hi

I'm about to start on the long haul project of getting my deep bite corrected with two years of braces. I wonder if anyone who is in the process of getting this done, or who has had it done, could let me know what facial changes can occur. I imagine that as the bite is opened, face lengthens a little - but is there anything else? My bite needs to be corrected and if I leave it i may face problems later - but i was a bit disheartened to see before and after pictures of deep bite correction on one site..i thought the people looked cuter before - their faces seemed squarer and lower jaws heavier afterwards...although perhaps thats because treatment is so lengthy they had aged!

Squarer jaws as opposed to long faces may be considered preferable. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder i guess.

I'm currently in treatment for a severly deep bite myself. I've only been braced for 18 days but going to take pics periodicly to keep up with my progress. I'm curious too to see if it changes the shape of my face any so I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

yes, square jaw can look lovely (not sure it would on me though!) but I'm just trying to anticipate what facial changes might occur...i suppose if the smile is being widened, face might look a little broader...but equally if bite is opened, then one would think face might get a little longer. Hopefully changes wont be very obvious.

I don't know. But when you consult with an ortho ask them what type of facial profile changes you might expect. I am sure they have dealt with cases similar to yours before..
