My orthontist asked me to sign a consigment at last visit so at next appoitment she can remove my braces. But my 2 teeth did not look symmetrical to others. She told me she can do as I want and move the teeth but it will require more piling down the edges because the shape of teeths. She already check '7 points of bites' and piled down the edges.. And I'm thinking piling down the teeth that won't grow back is pretty bad already.. But then not having symmetrical look is also bothering me.
Here's details with photo:
teeth #1 and #2 are straight from the root but 3&4 are bit slanted from the root. Also when you compare 2 and 3 bottom lines, 3 is longer than 2. Moreover position of 1 and 4 are different, where 1 is placed foward and 4 is sllighly position back.
I can't really tell what you are talking about, maybe have a clearer picture? It looks pretty straight to me, but if you are looking for perfection I think over time it will move a little anyway however, since you are paying a lot of money I would do what you think is best. I'll probably wait until I'm completely satisfied until the ortho tells me that its all finished.
Braced for 23 months 1 week and 3 days!
I had 4 extractions and all my wisdom teeth removed.
I decided to get removal retainers so it will be easier to floss.
seriously they look fine i think you are being too fussy which can happen when you have had braces for so long you get obsessed almost about your teeth and you want them absolute perfect, but honestly they look wonderful to me i would jus get them off when your orthodontist originally said but obviosly final decision is up to you.
I think the only one who will see this asymmetry is yourself, I'm sure no one will look as critically to your teeth as you do yourself, I can't even see the asymmetry myself by looking at a close-up pictures of your teeth, let alone people who are just looking at you or talking to you in real-life.
If you are not happy with how it looks though then it might be worth extra treatment, but honestly looking at your teeth I would be perfectly happy with a smile like that.
I also had to try really hard to see what you were referring to. As others have said, if this is something that will cause you to lose sleep at night, by all means do whatever necessary to achieve perfection. For me though, I don't mind a bit of imperfection---it adds character.
Here's more clear shot with my mouth open. People around me first tell me my teeth look sraight but when I tell them take a second look, then they are able to see what I see after carefully examing them. Does anybody else see what I see?
I started out with straight teeth from begining.. They were slightly tilted to left because of my jaws. I had my treatment for overbite and overjet which is totally fixed with 4 extractions and 2 yrs of metal brace. Here's photo before
I want that perfection, but piling doesn't sound healthy to me. . It means like I'm more vulnerable to cavities in a long run. I know I'm probably talking about 1~2mm difference.. but orthdontic treatment is all about few mm alignment which takes yrs to complished..
Well you said it yourself, they can't see it until you tell them to carefully examine them. I guess I am not sure of the terminology of your dentist and what "piling" is so I can't really give an opinion of that - but as far as achieving perfection, I guess wanting that is reasonable when we are forced to live with braces for two years, but honestly I think slight imperfections are what give people character. It shows that we are human. The imperfection you notice is so slight and hard to see.
Personally, I think your teeth look great. I can see sort of what you're talking about, but I think the tiny asymmetry is due to the shape of your teeth. It's really hard to notice, and I only noticed because I was specifically looking where you had pointed out. I still think your teeth look amazing. I would be very happy with that result.

piling down means they're shaving your teeth down to make it straight edges. Sometime they do this between teeths also. Downside is that your teeth never grow back once enamel is piled down.. and enamel protects your teeth from cavities.
I can see that your UL canine has a higher gingival margin than the right side. However, it looks like the incisal edges match. This means that the UL canine has to be "filed" (not piled) or shaved down in order to correct what you are looking for as it has a longer clinical crown (the part that we see). Otherwise, your gum level will match but we will read a post about how the incisal edges don't match up :).

polishing the edges of your teeth down slightly will not increase your chance of cavities. The edges are not a cavity prone area as it is and even when IPR is done inbetween the teeth (which is a more cavity prone area) there isnt an increase in decay.
The UL canie does look longer d/t the gum level as Dr Tam pointed out.
Perhaps some gingival grafting could help. The canine area can be a difficult place to graft but that would make a world of difference.
Perhaps a slight gingivectomy on the UL lateral could help to even the right and left sides too.
