OK, so don't get scared....they literally use a pair of pliers...or that is what they looked like to me. They are special, not just your run of the mill get at Wal-mart to work on the car....

I honestly didn't notice they were popping brackets off until it came to the molar bands. They molar bands didn't want to go on, and they sure as heck didn't want to come off...then they get the glue off....they did hand scrape the glue off but when I go back in on Wednesday they said they would polish everything.

Hope this helps and congrats!!!

They drilled the glue off mine, they missed a spot, and i told them.. or else it would of stayed on for a long time =p.

It is nothing to worry about compared to all the pain during treatment.

Debanding for me was the easiest process in the world and it took more time finishing paper work and getting the glue off than anything else. My debanding appointment I went in and sat down and the assistant used a special pair of pliers. They just came right off no pressure no pain they just came right off. I had to wait while my ortho finished my paper work but then he gave me a pair of goggles to wear and he buffed/filed all the glue off which for the most part does not hurt at all except on like two of my teeth. He had me rinse my mouth and then he set to work on placing and adjusting my retainers and making sure to tell me to wear them 24/7 unless I was eating or brushing my teeth. After that he told me I was done and free to go. That was all there was to it.

alright thanks guys!!!! so not really painful but more pressure then anything? doens't sound overally bad! hahaha how were all of your gums afterwards?? I only ask because i got no back wires on my back molar now as of yesterday and they were pretty angry for a little while. Thank god for the salt water rinse! and for getting the permanent retainer do they put that on the same day or do they wait for the next day like the temporary retainer?

Being that I am on blood thinners, my gums bleed quite a bit. but dont worry...it is because i am on blood thinners....my teeth were a little sore but not to bad, yes, you hit it on the head, it was more pressure than pain.

The way my OD does it is she takes off the braces in two segments one week apart. on week 1, they remove the braces from the canines to molars and since I had to get a fixed retainer on the top they put it on before the impressions were made. this way the hawley retainer will fit around the fixed retainer. My bottoms i will only be getting a fixed retainer and that will go on tomorrow when i go back for round two to get the rest of the braces off and my hawley.

But every OD does things different...I would imagine that if you are going to get fixed retainers they will go on right away.
